Model needing to lose weight... I need suggestions.

Recommended Posts

I'm 15-years-old and I'm starting to pursue my modelling career. I have several family members who are prominent models, so it's kind of like a family thing. But, that's not why I like it. I love the runway and the clothes. It's a fun thing for me. But, I need to lose weight. I'm not fat at all, but I was wondering if anybody had an suggestions on how to lose weight around the thighs and hips. Also, any diets that work well? I don't want to get into any unhealthy eating habits... :) And I can't seem to give up my Starbuck's Frappacinos occasionally. :) Let me know if you can help! Thanks! I aprreciate any replies! :-)

You cannot choose where you will lose inches (thighs, hips).

Sorry, Genetics has already programmed this into your body.

You might lose weight overall, but see a DR!

Do not try this by yourself. It is much more dangerous than you imagine.

Thank you for the reply... but, even with targeted exercises, I can't take inches off my thighs or hips?

I also see your concern, but I know eating disorders and I won't let that happen.

Go see a doctor.... no one in this forum knows your physical health..... no one here knows your medical history.... your family physician will counsel you on what would be the best method of weight loss for you and will decide whether you even need to lose weight..... please do not seek medical advice from a forum.... exercises etc fine.... but not weight loss....

You should seek medical advice BUT running, and lots of floor leg exercise works for some.. try some basic aerobic tapes targed to the part of your body you want to change you night not lose the weight in that particular area but you will tone it atleast, make sure you streach properly 1st.

agreed with above. also, to look sleeker, try yoga and pilates, and grab yourself a calorie counter. some of those frapps have upwards of 400 calories! (i'm assuming you get the non-fat kind though)

No, you cannot.

For example, lets say you wanna take inches from your thigh (target). You decide your gonna start doing lots of squats (thigh exercise). Result:

BIGGER THIGHS!

Overall, you will burn more calories, and may lose fat, (some of this may even be from the target area) but if you "target" one area's inches what you're really doing is increasing the size of the muscle in the target area.

Again, you're in pretty good shape already if you're "on the runway." My concern is:

If your already modelling, then why should you change anything?

well, if you're trying to lose weight, cut out the sugar. Fraps are loaded in it.

If you're looking at diets, you'll have to do some research.

First, don't do anything stupid like Atkins or South Beach. Those will destroy your body.

Don't just read nutruition labels, read the list of ingredients on foods. Many processed foods, along with foods in general, are made with hydrogenated oils or partially hydrogenated oils. These are trans fats. You body cannot digest them and sends them straight to your fat cells. Ever wonder why America is the fattest country in the world? This is why. Trans fats, and sugar. You can read about them here: http://www.bantransfats.com

Good carbs are good. They give you more energy to work out.

Work out too. Don't just do cardio either. Try some lifts. Muscle helps burn fat faster. And don't be scared about getting all muscley and bumpy (I hear a lot of girls being scared of this). You have very little testosterone in your body, so that is impossible.

Drink more water too. Try to drink around 4 liters a day.

Good luck ^_^

Two years ago, I lost over 60 lbs over the course of several months by eating healthily (and not dangerously), working out good and drinking lots of water.

Always have a checkup and talk with your family physician before making any major changes in diet & exercise. If he/she says you're OK, you're ready to go.

For a diet regimen you can live with, I can strongly recommend Ediets.com. They will give you a number of programs to choose from, but pick the Ediets one. You can customize it day to day...you won't get bored...and you'll get a good, balanced diet. There are various support BBs you can access when the going gets tough, they have some good e-newsletters and lots of other good stuff..

For exercise, I can't imagine life without yoga, weight training and long walks. I've done some pilates and it's good as well.

BTW, I've lost 65 pounds on this program (went from a size 18 to a 6 in the course of a year)...have kept it off for 18 months without difficulty...and have never felt better in my 47 years.

Just don't go all anorexic or bulimic on us, OK?

Thank you to everybody that posted a reply! I really appreciate it. Don't worry... and eating disorders are not something that I'm going to have to deal with. :-D
