i think that most person who have never suffered depression, think of it as a weakness. and as a way of giving up.

 

i would probably not be here with ou the help of my prozac, which i still take, and have little or no noticable side effects.

Some of us still struggle sometimes, to see our OWN mental conditions as a health problem and not a weakness!

One of my favourite soapbox issues. That's because the old way of thinking ('helped' by the cognitivist theories) is that any sort of mental distress is caused by wrong thinking. All one needed to do was think straight, and, hey presto, you'd be fine - so obviously if you're not fine it's because you're too lame to think right.

 

That old, stupid attitude will take a long time to die, unfortunately, but its evil spectre still haunts people like you ladies :mad:

Yes, it does. And friends and family sometimes get so frustrated that they will scream at you "to get your head together and think straight!"...and it's hard when it ain't always that simple. But it feels like it SHOULD be if only you were stronger and more in control. And also, there is always the knowledge that it you DONT do that, then things could eventually fall apart in your life.
