paperbag111 Posted January 30, 2011 Share Posted January 30, 2011 Hey guys, my ex left me about 7 months ago and now I'm trying to focus on improving myself and getting back into shape. Question is what protein brands do you guys recommend? I'm mid-20s, about 140lbs and 5'7''. I struggle to put on muscle even back when I use to go to the gym for some serious sessions. I've also heard that there are some protein type pills that you take before bed so you continuously have protein released into your system. This has to be all natural stuff. No roids what so ever. paleblue Posted January 30, 2011 Share Posted January 30, 2011 its about diet. f you burn 3,000 calories a day, than you need to start consuming 4,000 calories a day to gain. in conjunction with working out. so that the extra you are gaining turns into muscle and not your belly. it doesnt matter what kind of protein brand it is in my opinion. you need the calorie intake and at least 100g's of protein a day, most likely more. casein protein is usually taken at bedtime for what you are talking about. its a powder you mix. To some degree...but with increasing caloric intake, there's a serious law of diminshing returns effect...your body can only metabolize food at a certain rate...so any excess amount of food will only make you fat... For bulking, I believe it's more about how you train... For protein, I just use Optimum Nutrition's 100% Whey protein...it's the undisputed #1 seller for a reason...relatively inexpensive and good quality...you can't go wrong... FryFish Posted February 1, 2011 Share Posted February 1, 2011 Im 5'7" and I weigh 175lbs at 8% body fat. I get all my protein from natural sources. Chicken, eggs, cottage cheese, milk, beef jerky... Before bed I recommend beef jerky, its nearly impossible for that to end up as fat. Get the simplest jerky you can find. I eat cottage cheese before bed too... And dont do curls every day... tman666 Posted February 4, 2011 Share Posted February 4, 2011 Steroidz, duh... Really though, you probably need to eat a lot more, and start training hard. Going in to the gym and dicking around with a bunch of shoulder raises and arm work isn't going to do much for you. You need to start moving heavy weights. As mentioned before by some of the vets here, squatting, deadlifting, pull ups, rows, and various presses should be your bread and butter. For bulking up, the more calories and nutrients you can put down post-training, the better. I personally feel that most supplements are a waste of money, but I feel that Vit. D, calcium, and whey protein are staples. Creatine is great too, though some people do not respond to it. Link to post Share on other sites
