Ay Diesel T
But I have a question. Around August last year, I aced everything for this job. The interview, I got along very well with everyone, and even had some old friends working there. Everything was golden. But, I failed the pre-employment drug test. Now, since my new job sucks total ass (hours, pay)..I really want to give that missed opportunity another shot, but I don't know if I should even bother. It was a job with CompUSA, I'm not sure on their company policy and how strict they are with marijuana use. I'm clean now, and I'm definitely not an addicted user. I did some research, but I couldn't find whether or not CompUSA holds onto records like that, and for how long. What do you guys think?
jerbear
Those records are usually confidential. Since you didn't get the job, most employers keep the actual records for about 1 year; unless you happen to be on a special do not hire list.
Duckduckgoose
Maybe look for a job that doesn't drug test. I'm sure there are jobs out there that don't care if you do drugs or not. I just looked up CompUSA because I've never heard of it before. Looks like they have them in Illinois, Florida, Texas, Georgia, and Deleware. Maybe when you apply and it asks if you've ever applied to CompUSA before just say no you didn't. That way they won't think to look up and see if you have a past record. Also, if they do a hair drug test you might be in trouble. There are shampoos you can get to "clean" your hair just to be on the safe side.
Author Ay Diesel T
Guess I'm a bit embarrassed. And I definitely let alot of people there down when I failed the pre-employment drug test. Not looking to try and avoid anything, just want to do this the most honest way possible. Was thinking of going back there and speaking with the hiring manager personally, and giving him a resume. I presume he'll either ask what happened, or just deny me the opportunity. Not sure what to think at this point, meant to go today, but I got psyched out. To even walk in there is going to be a feat for me.

If the hiring manager tells you to get lost you know it just wasn't meant to be. And you don't have to lie about the past, just omit details that are not favorable. If directly questioned, tell the truth.
