Do our thoughts affect our reality?

I have been reading about the law of attraction lately, and I think it sounds good in theory, but it cannot really be falsified. Well, nobody can read others thoughts/feelings, so know what a person desires.

But over the past few months, I have been desiring a smartphone and I bought one a few days ago. I had been thinking about it continually, and had sought out opportunities to buy one, and eventually I did. Does this mean the law of attraction actually works? Maybe. But I can see and understand the rationale behind it.

I think in a general sense though, everything stems from our thoughts and feelings.

i believe our thoughts can affect our reality. like if your thoughts gravitate towards a particular goal in life and you focus on that goal to make it happen there's direct proof your thoughts affect your reality.

seems weird a conscience thought can manifest into the material world.

Of course it does.

Your reality is just an illusion created by your thoughts. It sounds very Matrix but that's the truth and it's a core teaching of the Buddha.

"We are what we think, with our thoughts we create our world".

So for e.g., you wanted that phone, you felt you needed it. You had to have it, and without it you wouldn't be happy. You wanted it so much, you put the plan in action to obtain it. And guess what? You obtained it! That was the reality you created stemming from the feeling of wanting to have it.

Don't know what the law of attraction is, do you mind sharing?

The law of attraction is junk. You wanting a smart-phone, so you bought one is not an example. An example of the law of attraction at work would be you desiring a smart-phone then winning one or somebody surprises you with one.

In other words, it has to be something that you wanted to happen that you had no real control over and it happened.

As for thoughts affecting reality. I believe that reality shapes our thoughts based on occurrences. And our thoughts can affect how we see reality. There isn't anything mystical.

Your thoughts affect how you behave, how you behave affects the way you interact with the people around you, and the way you interact affects what happens to you. So in that sense, yes, your thought affect your reality. But there's no mystery or magic to this.

The "universe" doesn't care what we think.

The only thing your can control is your thoughts. Your feelings, and subsequently your actions, stem from your thoughts. Creative visualization does make you feel better.

The Law of Attraction is amazing - there are 2 people close to me that have it working for them. It's hard though... I haven't come anywhere near to mastering all this.

I recently conducted an experiment in which I tried to manifest 15 desires of mine in 50 days using the law of attraction. The fascinating fact is that 13 out of those 15 desires came true in some way or the other. I have written about each desire's manifestation in detail here: http://www.personal-development-is-fun.com/manifesting-abundance-1.html

Let me give you an example. One day I lay down on my bed, closed my eyes and imagined myself wearing a new pajama. This pajama was light brown in colour and had 2 pockets on both sides that protruded out from it. I imagined walking out on the streets wearing this pajama....The every next day, I saw a make-shift marketplace spring about 100 m away from my house and one of the first things I saw in this makeshift market place was exactly the pajama I had imagined!

I was of course stunned. :)

I have not yet consciously tried using the law of attraction to manifest large things like say, a million dollars. But I have had success with small desires as I've mentioned in the link above.

A number of things I have desired lately have come to pass, so I think there is some truth in it.

I think our thoughts do affect our reality.

Say there were two circumstances that might happen:

Scenario #1: I go out to a public event, see a pretty girl I fancy, and ask her out. I'm shot down. I take it to heart and act all depressed, and sulky.

Scenario #2: I go out to a public event, see a pretty I fancy, and ask her out. I'm shot down. I don't take it to heart, and ask out the next girl, who likes me better and is willing to get to know me. We arrange a date. I go home with a number, and a promise to "get together soon."

What is the difference between the two? In #1, I let my thoughts dictate my actions. It's the same as a wino saying, "Oh, I can't help it, I am a drunk", and diving into alcohol instead of taking a chance and going to AA. Or a porn addict saying, "I can't help it", and spending all day masturbating to internet pornography, instead of spending that time actually pursuing a real girl that could lead to real sex.

I have social anxiety. However, I've realized recently...it does not have me. Every single thing I fear happening, when the event takes place, none of my fears come true.

This is a real eye opener for me, because it's basically saying that I gave myself social anxiety, social anxiety didn't give me. That means that, at 28, I can go to college, I can make friends, I can get a girl interested. Sure, yeah, I'll be nervous, but I have the fear, the fear does not have me.

Good thoughts, man...

And it's important that you included this critical step:

My thoughts dictate my actions.

That's how your thoughts change your reality - through your actions, your behavior, the way you interact with the world. Not because the universe is listening and delivering things to you because you really, really want them.

I have not yet consciously tried using the law of attraction to manifest large things like say, a million dollars.

Why not? At the rate you're going, 13 out of 15, you should have a good shot at $866,666 and change...

Actually, you should ask for $1,153,850 - that should bring you an even million.

I often manifest great parking spots, and i think that this comes from a belief/thought that I deserve one. I can't go out and get a good spot, I have to rely on the actions of others, it's not something I can act into. IOW, i don't circle until one becomes available, I just pull into the grocery or mall or post office in my city of 150k people, and the spot closest to the door is open for me, 90 percent of the time. Money comes pretty easy, too, without effort on my part. I need cash and it shows up. Haven't manifested millions, lol, but I think if i really needed it, it would happen.

You can manifest crap, too. Have done that plenty. Negative thoughts work as quickly as positive ones.

I think that's all about attitude and outlook.. so yea, we can create our own "reality" - depending on how we choose to see things

Of course it does.

Your mind thinks "No one will like or care if I show up. Might as well stay home."

Guess what, your thought life just talked you into staying home.

I recommend reading "Battlefield of the Mind" by Joyce Meyer. It's moreso geared toward Christians, but trust me, even if you're non-Christian, read it with an open mind and see how it strikes you. Who knows, it could really help you out. It's worth at least picking up to read a few pages.

Sometimes I wish my life could become like some of the things I think about so often. :( But İ know if I want my daydreams to become reality it will take actions on my part part (and that of the other person in those dreams) and not just wishing they could somehow, happen. İn that way we control our destiny, its just on a person to do something about it.
