Kristie16
Has anybody else felt really burnt out from their jobs? How do you handle career burn out and unhappiness?
Eve
Yes, twice. The answer for me was to do a bit more study and change jobs. Each job change has bought me more autonomy from managers, until I now mostly manage myself and can work from home if I so choose. I also started my own business, which has now grown really well. I can't say that I was unhappy with the type of work I was doing though. Mainly I was annoyed with the management structure and political bs that was going on. Author Kristie16
I'd been working for myself for about the past year. While I wasn't making a ton of money, I was slowly earning more and more each month. I went back into an office (and working for a boss) with a temp job that pays well but I am just overworked and stressed all the time. I think part of it is because I am trying to keep up some of my freelance work on the side because I know this current job is only temporary, so basically I have one full-time job and nother part-time job in the same field. It's just a lot to handle and i feel like it's affecting my love of what I do.
Eve
In this climate it is wise that you have a day time job too but yeah, it's tiring to try to keep two things afloat. It's all about balance and routine with me and knowing when to switch off completely. I have had to refocus on my relaxation technique at night because my brain was too full. That helped. If you can, get away, even for a weekend. That can help too. Doesn't have to be anywhere expensive. You may just need a change of scenery to get recharged. But at least you are doing what you want to do. Where I live many are about to be forced into crappy jobs or long term unemployment.. what's it's like where you are? TBH, I felt really pressured to create my business in case everything went to **** with my job. Thankfully I have survived the massive cuts that have just been made to my department but I really feel for those who have no idea what they are going to do now. All in all, uncertainty can cause plenty of stress (thinking about your temp position) but I think that there comes a time when you just have to think, '**** it' and do what you can and not worry about it. Hence my sorting out my relaxation technique and only doing what I can manage. I am not at the stage where I can employ others as yet but think that once that happens the pressure may ease.. but then new pressures will become evident! You can only do what you can do. I say do what you can well and stuff the rest. Take care, Eve x Edited March 15, 2011 by Eve
