We'll have to wait or the GI doc to chime in, as I have experienced bleeding, which I don't wanna get into right now. For now I'm taking the multivitamins with iron. Don't want to start any aggressive iron supplementation without determining the root cause. Overall, I feel okay as we speak.

My husband has had a colonscopy..Feel free to PM me if you need to. :)

I hope everything is okay. You're in my thoughts buddy. And, once again, it's great your back on LS Westy! We missed you around here!

you can take the slow release iron each day with no effects of constipation.

my iron levels are extremely low as well... the iron helps me feel like a different person... i can't get through the morning without it!

i also take b12 and magnesium... that tends to help me.

Sounds a lot like iron deficiency anemia- good that you are getting the blood tests done..I would suggest you not to extend the logic to heart trouble- just try some de-stressing activity and beef up your immune system with good quality natural nutritional supplements. Ive known Jobelyn Blood Builder to do a great Job, and its safe too!

Sorry, been in Texas all week and just got back. (Hee haw!)

Feeling pretty good these days. Appt this coming Friday. I think my iron levels are picking up a bit, but not having crazy work hours has probably helped out tremendously, as my psyche is well rested. Sadly, the party ends on Monday when I return to work. LOL

I'll look into that. Sounds like something ideal for me. Thanks!

That's exactly what popped into my head after seeing Texas too! Hee Haw!

Glad to hear you're feeling better Westy. Hope you survived work today.

Looks like you have Iron deficiency anemia.

what was your MCV?. If your a male over 50 you need a colonoscopy to rule out GI bleed with iron deficiency anemia. That could be the cause of your microcytic anemia. If your B12 and folate were normal then you know you dont have a Macrocytic anemia, which can lead to neurological problems.

Hope your colonoscopy goes well. If you need any clarifications on your labs let me know.

Thanks. I'll ping you if any questions.

B12 was normal, but ferritin and iron cap were extremely low. If I get a colonoscopy and it reveals nothing, the doctor will request additional testing. Regardless, I will ask for another blood test in a couple of months.

My Mom said having a colonoscopy wasn't too much fun.

I hear that they blow air up there.

Good luck, hope all goes well.:)

I'm going to start my own thread (in rant/confession section, that way it's private and only members can read) since I had my dr's appt today and I don't threadjack Westy's.. I do hope you reply, could use your smart 2 cents! :)

Westy, glad that you know what's going on.

So the colonoscopy went well and my GI tract is healthy as can be. Blood loss is most likely internal hemorrhoids, but the bleeding has gone down drastically since I added the oatmeal to my diet over the last couple of months. I have another blood test in a month to check my iron levels, and I think they'll be much higher then (I hope). If not, I'll ask for an iron shot.

Nurse did mention that my heart rate was lower than normal on the EKG, but i probably get that from my father, which explains why people always bring up how laid back I seem.

Oh, and it's nice to be able to eat again... no more YouTube clips of fast food to torment me. LOL

I'm glad that you know what's going on and less blood in your poop too.

Hope you handled the "prep" before the colonoscopy okay.. My H had it and didn't feel good for 2 days..

Ask about the iron shots, they may want to put you on the pill form. I've heard that there are some side effects and actual pain involved in joints/legs from iron. Guess it's the way the body metabolizes it.

Hey W- talofa lava!

I was badly anaemic last month- I felt absolutely dreadful, was pale and kept getting sick. I have been anaemic on and off for lots of my adult life, last time was when I was pregnant. THis time I had tests and my iron and ferritin were terribly low, similar to yours.

When i was pregnant I took supplements in pill form, and I didn't have a problem with constipation, but this time I started taking the pills and the constipation was a real problem (esp post childbirth- TMI I know but:sick:)

So I had an iron shot, and it was AMAZING. Two days later I was back on the treadmill, I didn't want to crawl into bed as soon as I got home from work and my libido returned with a vengeance (much to my surprise and my husbands delight!) I felt like I had been on a relaxing holiday and had recharged. The shot didn't really hurt and I haven't had a single negative side effect.

The doctor recommended I have one every month for the next three months (husband is keen!), and in that time we want to get pregnant again, so we'll have to see how we go.

I can highly recommend the iron shot.
