Hi ,

Im 5ft8 and 145 pounds, my bmi is 22. I know thats not too bad im not exactly huge and im quite slim the problem is mainly love handles and ive had a baby so alittle bit of stretched skin. Is there any kind of excercise regime i could follow that could help? ive never been good with fitness really and dont know much about it. The main excercise i do is walking everywhere. So im thinking its time to get abit more active.I cant get to a gym i was wondering if there was anything i could do at home?

Thanks

50 Push Ups, 100 bodyweight squats, 100 jumping jacks, 30 burpees.

Split them up however you want to, but I guarantee you'll be gassed after getting through them.

Please dont worry about "BMI".... That has to be the worst indicator of whether or not someone is overweight...

if that's you in your pic, [hottie!!] your collar bones are showing so i cant see you being that bad.

I bet you look like a healthy woman who has had a child.

But anyway, do what Tman advises, that will get your blood pumping. Try and do it first thing in the morning as well. Gets the motabalism going for the whole day.

Good luck huni!!!

So weird, I seem to be one of the few that's wanting to put on weight... Getting there though, 95KG/209lbs 6 foot 1" [or so], 19% body fat...

The key to getting fit and toned is regular diet and exercise. I've had really good results with running, cycling, swimming and walking.

I'm not super diligent with what I eat, however, I try to get enough fibre. I stay away from sodas and juices. I mainly drink water.

It looks like you have good genes so you're already ahead of the game.

Good luck!

Agreed...well except the part of the collar bones. My collar bones show quite nicely, but I still carry a few pounds in the lower half that I tend to be self-conscious of.

Fat tends to deposit in once place...mine on my hips...hers on her lovehandles. :o

What Tman said about the workout.

Yoga (and not that wimpy stuff either) is also a great way to tone up. =D

I'm not kidding, do yoga! It tones your body, rids of handles and also helps keep your whole body at peace and relaxed.

Over the winter I got lazy...Now that Spring is here, I find my legs aren't as muscley as they used to be and I just feel..Blah.

1)BRISK walking every single day for atleast 20 minutes, build up to an hour.

2)YOGA! Even start off doing 10/20 minutes a day. Buy a DVD, beginners or intermidate, depending on your level..

3)Exercise while watching TV or laying in bed. You can do leg exercising, leg lifts.

4)If you don't like push ups and want your muscles in your arms to strengthen, do "Lean Up's". Use a counter and push yourself up on angle. I do incriments of 30 throughout the day/evening.

Join a gym if are into that, an instructor can help you get a good progam happening.

Hope this helps!

squats, push-ups, crunches etc are all important but you won't get anywhere without cardio. I was in exactly your situation, step aerobics and circuit training helped me out. I realise you can't get to the gym but you need to find a way to significantly increase your heart rate for 30 mins about 3 times a week

skipping is an excellent form of exercise, really cheap too.

Yeah. The original poster was wanting something that would be intense enough to illicit changes, but she said that she can't go to a gym.

I concede that my response was overly vague, so I will elaborate.

Bodyweight exercises are a great way to get in shape, build a level of strength that provides adequate function for most activities, and a great way to burn fat.

The exercises I listed could be split up in a way such as: 5 rounds of 10 push ups, 20 squats, and 20 jumping jacks. The 30 burpees would probably come in at the end as sort of a "finisher". The idea would be to be as fast as possible while taking as little rest as possible in between each exercise (preferably no rest at all). Rest could be taken in between each round, for no more than 1 or 2 minutes.

On the other hand, doing all those exercises in a straight set would require a more advanced level of muscular endurance.

A workout like this should take no more than 10-15 minutes or so. In a weekly schedule, she could do this 4 times per week, along with daily brisk (and preferably fasted) walks (for about 30-45 minutes). The fasted walks help burn fat in a low impact way.

These kinds of workouts (which could be classified as MetCons or Metabolic Conditioning circuits) are common throughout many training programs such as P90X, Insanity, CrossFit, and are often incorporated into strength training programs for general physical preparedness (GPP) training, which is important for even specialized athletes.

There's also plenty of good tools that a person can make or purchase for at-home training, such as dumbbells, tires, sleds, hammers, kettlebells, etc. RossTraining.com is a good resource for that kind of stuff.

I should note that MetCon workouts are not a good method for specializing in either fat loss or strength gain. However, they can be a helpful tool for those who are looking to get in good "functional" shape or those who can't or don't want to get into a traditional lifting environment.

I am fully aware of what the exercises are and what they classify as, thank ya very much. (just messing with you but I do actually know)

However due to my recent move I haven't been able to make it to the gym like usual.I am really missing lifting and can't do it at home. I usually do a combination of sit-ups,pull up, lunges , and squats at home. However, what you listed seem more efficient and straight forward.

Damn I miss living in walking distance of my gym :-(

Well then! Sorry for boring you with my post. I apologize for my transgression!

Honestly though, sounds like you're doing some good stuff. There's almost an infinite number of ways to do it. The common factor between all of them is intensity.

No, I actually enjoy reading your posts. How do you think I know about the exercises? (Not really, I work at a PT office..lol)

Yeah, one day I may lift the couch but I make sure the next day I go light and lift the t.v, You know to vary the intensity... :lmao::lmao::lmao:

You bring up another good point: mastering the art of backing off the intensity when it's warranted. For example, even though I did a pretty heavy and intense overhead press/pull up day yesterday, I performed some somewhat less strenuous pina colada/T.V. remote lifts later that night. ;)

Exercise is the most important part to reduce fat yoga is a best exercises to lose tummy fat.and walking is a good exercise do your exercise daily in 30 minutes. healthy diet is most important to your reduce weight.

yer to be honest i dont need to lose weight as such just tone up, although i have to eat healthy because have gallstones at the moment just waiting for my op. Also worried what ill look like after that with the scars and stuff :( suppose its better than suffering though. I was thinking of starting some sort of exercise regime after ive healed from my operation. I didnt think there would be any point in starting before as it would get disrupted :)

I have been known to be into them on occasion. :)

Makes for a good workout that I can do in my garage within 15 minutes without driving to the gym. I usually incorporate one or two per week into my training schedule.
