It's amazing how much can change in two years

May 3, 2009 -- on this night, at this very time, two years ago I was having one of the best nights of my life. Everything was complete in a full circle sort of ways. Great girlfriend, great grades in school and a great outlook for the future. What made this night great two years ago? I just remember being happy, watching the NBA playoffs and grinning while doing so.

So, now, two years later, I've hit rock bottom in terms of traveling the road of obtaining my dreams and surpassing my goals. Lost the girlfriend, I need to re-enroll in college and, well, the future looks alright at the moment. I just feel like I'm behind, and that it's going to be odd going to college in the fall with people who are a few years younger than me.

It's just amazing how much can change over the course of 730 days. I'm not really sure how to articulate my thoughts at the moment.

"So, what was the point of this thread?" is what you are probably wondering. Well, I guess the point was for me to actually sit down and write this, to clear the air so to speak, because I needed to get these thoughts out of my head as I've been thinking a lot today, reminiscing.

Now you just learned Life is up and down, things aren't always going to be in your favor in each and every single way, the ball isn't always going to be in your court, but the opportunity to continue going on happy will always be there and that is in your favor.

If you rely on "good times" in order to feel good/positive/and happy then you're just setting yourself up to be miserable for the rest of your Life,

and if you never look at the positive side to something then you leave yourself with only negative **** to deal with- if you want drama then keep doing that.

You will no longer feel behind once you feel happy with yourself and happy in general.

Thank you so much for the reply, SxB. I really appreciate it. I've been used to adversity for awhile. The house I grew up in burnt down in 1997 and my father died shortly before Christmas a few years later.

I was self-dependent for the longest time. The girls I dated were pretty cool, but we had short lived relationships. Then I met the girl that I mentioned in the original post and we were in love for a few years. That relationship changed me. It altered the way I acted.

Slowly getting back into my own groove of doing things. I'm going to focus on my goals now. Thanks for the reminders!

You articulate your thoughts very well. I know how you feel, and I'm sure many others here do as well. Hang in there.

Thanks, skydiveaddict.

Y'know what's amusing? I wrote that two years ago that I was watching the NBA playoffs. Well, tonight I'm watching one of the same teams I watched two years ago at the same place. It's strange how things work out.

I wouldn't let that bother you. I didn't graduate college until I was 34.

After that I took up skydiving and have done three tours overseas. You can do almost anything you want. But you must believe in yourself.

No problem.

During our difficult times it's easy to forget things as our minds become overwhelmed at certain points, happens to everyone and it doesn't mean you are weak, and just like your alias exclaims- If we are confident in being certain then we can spin a positive web-- instead of just remaining caught up in one.

Another thing on this: I'm not sure if you have to go to a specific school for your major, but some schools have an older average student age than others. You could look at the demographics and go to school with people closer to you age. But even if you are older, it's really not that big of a deal.
