KikiW
I have a hypothetical situation I need to consider options on and could use some input... My XH and I have split custody of our daughter, he has our old house, I am about to move into a rental home about 20 minutes away. Right now I am driving her to school when I have her. I am fortunate in that I am able to run my business out of the rental home, which means I am available at all times. There has been minor talk of our daughter changing schools - she is having trouble really "clicking" where she is, and she is just now discovering that change can be a really exciting, fun thing. XH can, due to his schedule, drive her up to the school in my area on the days he has her. I would have more flexibility to take her to and from any after school activities (though I "work from home" I still do have to work). The only real issue I see is that the schools in the area I am moving to are not better than the schools she would attend by him. They are certainly not "inner city" or 35 kids to a classroom, but they statistically rank lower. How much value do you parents put on those kind of statistics? Would you do anything to keep your kids in a school just because it is technically ranked higher? Or would you take a chance that despite their lower rankings, your kids might be more comfortable, find a better fit?\ Thanks for reading and any input.
worlybear
Forget the ranking. Your daughter needs to attend a school where she'll be happy. The best way of judging a school is to visit it- don't give too much warning- you'll be able to judge by the atmosphere and the kids/adults attitude what the school is like. Good luck! Mauschen
Does your exH agree to the school switch? If he has 50/50 legal, he'll have to agree. In any case, I agree with the other poster that school ranking is not always the best indication of better/worse school.
