Eight weeks and counting...Here are 10 tips that helped me...

It's eight weeks tomorrow since I last saw my MM. I have had off and on phone contact but am doing so, so much better. Everyday is a struggle and I wonder if I will ever be free of my obsession of him, but I am improving.

 

I thought I'd offer up the following from a book that helped me, "This Affair is Over" by Nanette Miner and Sandi Terri.

 

Ten Steps to Regaining Your Life

1. Accept the fact that he is not leaving.

2. Stop your association with him.

3. Stop obsessing about him.

4. Seek outside help.

5. Start a "new life".

6. Keep a journal.

7. Make a list of goals.

8. Re-establish your friendships.

9. Become spiritual.

10. Fake it till you make it.

 

 

I have not succeeded with #3 but am working hard at it. #5 sounds overwhelming but basically the book suggests for #5 that you take up a new hobby, do nice things for yourself, take a trip, move if you can, whatever.

Somone once told me the best revenge for being dumped was to be happy

 

I remember being dumped once and thinking how much better off (more popular, good looking, more friends, etc.) she had than me (I felt miserable, unwanted, rejected, an outcast from society, etc. . Anyway, I tried thinking happy thoughts and making myself feel happy (even forcing myself to laugh and smile! but then I just thought of her more (being happy like she would for all the above reasons) and it made me more depressed!

 

Who knows... God must have had a funny mean streak when he (or she) invented broken hearts

WOW Kkat.....it sounds like you've got yourself a winner list. I think we should make copies and post it on ALL future OW lists.

 

I am soooooo glad you've come this far! I know it's the hardest thing you ever had to do. In the end though.....you will finally be FREE!

 

It's also helpful to think about how the day will come when you will meet someone who has the capacity of loving you OPENLY.....to shout your name from the rooftops....to take you home to Mom....to plan vacations with you.....and put his name on your mailbox.....LOL!
