My lonely friend ...

Recommended Posts

I'm trying understand my friend, Alex. This is a guy that I enjoy seeing from time to time and that I can relate to in some ways. We're both single, been dumped before, and aren't exactly the highest on the self esteem scale, but most importantly we share the common loneliness feelings like some people.

I ask him from time to time, "Hey, do you want to go with me to the mall or to get a bite to eat?", I just get a straight "no". If I ask him why, he responds with "I don't feel like leaving my house today."

Oddly, I see him on Facebook complaining he's lonely. How on earth can you pass up hanging out with someone? If anyone ever offered me, I would be out the door in a flash, especially if I'm not the one driving. So, I fail to see his point of view. You can't really complain about being lonely when you have the opportunity. It's like a poor man complaining that's he's poor when he's offered all the money in the world.

He could be depressed. He doesnt want to go out..So, instead why not drop by his house and hang out with him?

I think he meant feeling lonely in the sense of missing what he had while in a relationship. Friendship is different. One can still be lonely and have many friends, go out and socialize.

I agree with whichwayisup , it sounds like your friend has depression, I used to do the same to friends when I was suffering from serve depression. However my friends never stood from that c**p lol, anytime I would try to play that card my friends would always should up to my house and simply just make me go with them.

when one has depression the signs can be different on a lot of people, like your friend I used to feel lonely all the time even though I was around a lot of people such as my family and friends, I would never want to go out or do anything all I simply wanted to do was stay in bed and sleep my day away.
