quietGuy13
I was reading this magazine..and i've read stuff before that says that food coloring, stuff in sodas, stuff in packaged foods, et c etc... fast food, etc has aspertine( or whatever is called) and that causes cancer. Then I also read , not even just that... PILOOWS emit some cancer causing gas molecules and clothing too .. Plastic too, and everything. Anyways, there's no naturall food in the store anymore. Unless you're rich and buy everything organic. But most people who are poor or middle class are not gonna go to expensive organic stores. Most poor people go for the cheap stuff. and sadly the cheap stuff is Sodas, juices, etc. all the stuff that contains those so called cancer causing stuffs. So, are we young(20s or below) or decently young( 30s) people of now, are we doomed to having cancer when old? Anything we can do??
denise_xo
I'm on a low budget and can't afford all the organic stuff, but there are still lots of choices you can make to have a relatively healthy diet low on additives. I hardly ever drink soda, but drink water instead and just add some juice from a lemon or an orange if I want some additional flavour. I try to avoid packaged food and a lot of fast food. When I buy juice, I try to go for the one with natural sugars rather than lots of sugar added. They cost a bit more, but I'd rather drink less juice than lots of crap juice. And so on. I'm sure there are lots more options out there for healthier living on a low budget, I just haven't researched it properly. Try googling it and see what you find. TigressA also has a thread on here about cutting out OTC products.
josie54
I never believe it when people say "it's too expensive to eat healthy." What they mean is, "it's too HARD to eat healthy." People eat fast food because it's FAST, not because it's cheap. Because to eat healthy, you can actually spend less than you spend on a fast food meal or preprocessed food, but you actually have to cook sometimes. You have to watch for sales. You have to stock up on healthy items when they're cheap. And then, you have to NOT eat some things that are quite tasty in the short term (chips, preprocessed crap, etc.), but will make you sick over time. Whole wheat bread costs no more than white bread. Bananas are cheap, you can buy apples by the bag. Every week there are a variety of fruits and vegetables that can be bought on great sales. Frozen vegetables (generic brands) are beyond cheap. Organics are great if you can afford them, but if not, conventional fruits and vegetables are WAY better than the crap most people normally eat, and are much less likely to give you cancer than that stuff too. Canned beans, etc., are a bit more expensive, but dried beans, which just have to soaked overnight and then cooked, are incredibly cheap. Brown rice (generic brands) is cheap. I could go on, but you get the idea. So, no, you aren't doomed, if you're actually willing to go into the produce section of your grocery store and look at what's on sale and buy it, and then AVOID the preprocessed foods in the center of the store, except for items that are in areas like rice, beans, whole wheat flour, etc. The argument that healthy is always expensive, from start to finish, is faulty.
