Ouroboros
So people should be locked up for using the word slut in your view? Might as well. We are all eventually heading there anyway.
Woggle
Might as well. We are all eventually heading there anyway. As soon as you give the people the tool to criminalize speech don't be surprised when it used against you. The price of loving in a society with free speech is that some people will say disgusting things but it is a worthy price to pay/
EasyHeart
using the word "slut" as an offensive name for someone who does nothing other than sleep with many people, or date many people, or wears certain clothes, or acts in a certain way or - and more often than not - for someone who has wronged you in some way or you simply don't like is exactly hate speech. That is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. Using that standard, "player" would be just as much hate speech as "slut". Other terms that you would define as hate speech include (off the top of my head): fatso slob loser punk *sshole sh*t-for-brains liberal conservative Boomer lawyer doctor politician cop teacher and the most hateful term of all: Packer. It's a terrifying picture you paint of a world where everyone is either muzzled or imprisoned.

It's a terrifying picture you paint of a world where everyone is either muzzled or imprisoned. how do ANY of these words constitute as what i defined as hate speech: liberal conservative lawyer doctor politician cop teacher ????? seriously, those are terms for groups of people. they are not derogatory or offensive. slut, on the other hand, most definitely is. and the rest of those words you said, yes they are. they're pretty awful things to call people, all of them are, and when they are used to define a person or a group of people they are DEFINITELY meant in a derogatory and offensive manner. aside from "boomer" and "packer", i don't even know what those names mean and i have no desire to look them up. now, no i don't think people should be "locked up" or "muzzled" for simply using these words in conversation or whatever. refrain? yes. teach their children that they are hurtful? yes. lead by example and choose not to use some of those words, especially words like "slut", "player", and what-have-you, as those words in particular carry very heavy connotations? yes. unfortunately, what starts off as name calling can very easily downward slope into real hatred and violence. not always, but it's a risk and there are many occurrences which corroborate this. Ouroboros
I would rebel and die before I ever live like that. It will happen so gradually you won't even notice. They already have cameras everywhere and require full body scans to board a plane. How long before you need full body scans to enter a courthouse, a school, and even a mall or grocery store? This is true but if it ever got to the point where I could be arrested for speech I would go out in a blaze of glory.
EasyHeart
how do ANY of these words constitute as what i defined as hate speech: liberal conservative lawyer doctor politician cop teacher ????? seriously, those are terms for groups of people. they are not derogatory or offensive. They are to me. Spend a day or two with me, and I guarantee I'll use them in a derogatory manner many times (usually preceded by "f-ing") now, no i don't think people should be "locked up" or "muzzled" for simply using these words in conversation or whatever. refrain? yes. teach their children that they are hurtful? yes. lead by example and choose not to use some of those words, especially words like "slut", "player", and what-have-you, as those words in particular carry very heavy connotations? yes. unfortunately, what starts off as name calling can very easily downward slope into real hatred and violence. not always, but it's a risk and there are many occurrences which corroborate this.If that's the case, you might want to spend some time learning what the term "hate speech" means. It's a legal term that includes some sort of criminal or administrative punishment, so when you accuse someone of hate speech, you're saying that you want the government to punish them.
