Munchkin
I feel like such a horrible mother. My 8 month old fell off the bed which is about a foot and 1/2 high. He was a sleep when this happened. He cried for a few minutes and went right back to sleep. I'm checking to see if he is ok every few minutes and he seems fine. Has this ever happened to anyone? if so please share your experience. somedude81
LOL, I'm sure this has happened to just about every baby that has ever been born since the history of mankind. As long as the kid doesn't land on tile or concrete, it should be OK from a short fall.

I must have knocked all of their heads against door frames at least once and I have already accidentally clipped my 5 week old baby's finger instead of her finger nail. No mommy is perfect all the time, just most of the time. Oh and I wanted to add that while trimming one of my boys hair I promised if he was really still I would not cut his ear... and then I did. We laugh about it now.

Yup. My oldest (9) rolled off the bed right in front of us at half the age as yours. Babies are more resilient then you think. I know the feeling of "bad parent"
TaraMaiden
My daughter stood up in her high chair, because I hadn't done the strap up - and fell forwards, face forward onto a concrete floor, when she was just over a year old... She's now 28, with a baby of her own, who fell out of his high chair the other day..... It's true....!
bentnotbroken
Yup, the bed, the sofa, out of the baby swing(defective and was replaced)and I learned my lesson with car seats with my oldest. I had to hit breaks and he almost went flying:(. Yup, never again.
LoriEmber
Yes, my baby did one night 5 times!!!! Sounds awful, but it is the truth. He would only sleep between us. (mom and dad) He would flip flop all over that bed, and being so exhausted, his dad and I would go out like lights. HE would work down to the bottom and BAM fall off. He would whine around a bit (from being scared I'd imagine.) and go back to sleep. Kids are more resilient that people think. Oh and by the way, my son is now a HEALTHY, NORMAL, AWESOME 20 year old now!!!!

How terrifying for you!! I'm glad your baby was okay.. If you are concerned, take him to the Dr and get checked out. Though I'm sure he's going to have tons of pillows all around him at night so he doesn't squirm out of the bed again! I take it he was in your bed.. I don't have kids but I remember having my niece for a sleepover, and she fell out of the bed, she was 2. After that she insisted we take the mattress of the bed and put it on the floor! bigmomma1974
oh heck the baby fell of the bed. It is just starting, there will be many more terrifying moments like this. rolled off the bed, couch, love seat. it will be ok cause it happens to us all at one point in our babies lifes. Don't beat yourself up to much over it. wait till they decide to jump from the couch and smack their head on the coffee table doh. Now that is scary.
LoriEmber
5 times in one night! :lmao: YES! It was terrible. He hated his crib. He wanted to co-sleep and I did too. He was just all over the bed. He would literally sit up and lay down in a completely different position. His dad and I were always so exhausted we would never know when he moved. It's all good now!!! Like I said, he is 20 1/2 years old, starting his 3rd year of college in August. I, too, accidentally let my son's head hit the door facing. To me, that was far worse then him falling off the bed. I actually cried over that. I felt TERRIBLE. It didn't make a place or bruise. But it ripped my heart out. That only happened one time.
florence of suburbia
My H and I were arguing over whether the Old Testament foreshadows Christ's divinity when we were interrupted by a loud thump and a silence followed by a wail. Our four month old had rolled off the bed. This was the first we knew that she could roll from her back to her tummy. She was fine and is today an argumentative 12 year old with strong opinions of her own.

She's nearly 2 now and a totally normal child. When it happened I felt terrible and thought I would never forgive myself yet now I can't even remember exactly when it happened. Stung
My husband fell asleep with our sleeping son on his chest, when the baby was only a few weeks old. The little guy rolled right off, fell off the height of his dad plus the bed and hit the nightstand on the way down! I was terrified, but we never did figure out which part of him clonked the nightstand--we heard the sound, but there wasn't a bruise or a scratch on him. He was frightened and he cried, but he settled back to sleep in just a few minutes--faster than he usually did when he hadn't had any scary adventures. When he was about seven months old, I was walking him in his stroller when an old ankle injury flared up and I toppled. It was like a slow-motion horror movie, I watched my hands pulling the stroller over with me, and I couldn't stop it. His carrier was on it's side on the sidewalk and he was half out of it on the ground, even though he was buckled in. I couldn't walk but my stepdaughter righted the stroller and I called my husband to come get us, fortunately he wasn't far away. I held it together until my husband got there and loaded the kids into the car, but when I had a second alone with him I burst into tears. Dumping my baby onto the sidewalk like that had totally terrified me. As soon as I could walk well enough to take him in his stroller again, I started seeing a physical therapist, and we bought a giant yuppie stroller that's practically untippable and maybe one step down from an armored car, just in case my ankle blew out again. Fast forward a year, and he was co-sleeping with me. Usually he sleeps in his own bed or between us if he is in our bed, but that night he was on the outside, I can't even remember why now. I had him inside the curve of my arm, but he made it over my elbow and rolled over the side. That time he just hit a pile of pillows, no big deal. He was startled but actually thought it was funny. He's a happy healthy sweet-but-rambunctious two-year-old now, seems perfectly fine, is advanced in many ways. A bump on the noggin or two doesn't seem to have done any harm. florence of suburbia
Between the two of us, you'd think our kids are lucky to be alive. Some other great moments: While hiking with 6 month old baby in front pack and 5 year old on foot, husband got caught in a mountain storm with freezing rain. Finally, near hypothermia, they hitched a ride with a stranger back to the car. I was trying to use glycerine to get an ink stain out of a skirt and my 4 year old drank it. Turns out it is perfectly fine to ingest glycerine but I had no idea.
Disillusioned
I don't really believe that stupidstition that if a baby falls on its head, it will turn out to be a feeb.

Did you know that three year olds that eat rocks at daycare can simply poo them out in most cases? Or that 18 month olds can dent their heads on coffee tables and be just fine and the dent can take years to go away but it will? Or that two year olds sometimes fall through glass patio doors and are fine?
SoleMate
#1: One of my first babysitting jobs, I let a baby roll off a bed. It was a really big bed and I had (safely I thought) placed the baby in the middle. I didn't realize they could flop around like that. The baby cried for a long time. I never told the parents and they never complained so I guess the baby was OK. #2: My own first baby fell from her high chair and basically dived headfirst straight into the floor. (I had heard the safety buckle snap closed, but due to its poor design that did not always indicate actual closure.) She landed with a sickeningly loud crash, turned horribly white, threw up twice, and then started screaming. I called the doctor and they said, "ER". By the time they saw her 45 minutes later, she was perfectly fine. She just completed her first year at a prestigious college. #3: My then-husband not infrequently would bang the baby's head against doorframes (as an accident of course). If dropping babies on their heads could kill them, the human race would have died out long ago. Of course, I strongly support all safety measures to prevent this happening. Example: At home, do not put the baby on the bed. The floor is usually much safer, as long as the baby is out of the traffic pattern.
