Ghosst
I don't think you need the love of others (but I think it helps for sure) or a job to be happy. You can have tons of people that love you and a great job and still be unhappy. Happiness comes from within. I find it is life's little moments that can make my day, a smile from a stranger, a hug from my son, or smelling flowers. Appreciating the little things makes me feel happy. I recently began reading a book called The Happiness Advantage. There are a number of principles in the book that can be used for any purpose and can change how you feel. The writer recommends starting every day by writing down 5 things that are good in your life right now. These can be simple like my car is running smooth, no one in my family is sick, the flowers are blooming, my hair looks great, etc. etc. or more complex. He also suggests spending 5 minutes every day remembering and writing about something from your past that made you happy....perhaps an afternoon of laughing with friends, a fun vacation, a child's first step or laughter, having a snowball fight, a day floating on the lake. A third item that I am now going to incorporate is to pick one day per week and consciously do 5 random acts of kindness. These can be simple like holding open the door for someone walking slowly in a store, making a checkout person laugh and smile, bring a friend a flower, baking someone cookies, texting a friend to remind them how great a person you think they are and why. All these little things have been contributing to making me happier and are helping me to heal from my breakup.
Minnie09
Being adored makes me happy. Shallow, I know. But this is how I get my endorphin-kick.
