Finch
FB is so pervasive that some people feel they're missing out if they don't have an account. Like a few others here I have an account that I rarely use. Can it be useful? Sure. I don't find it helpful in my own life, but others use it for networking and to keep in touch with family and friends. However, it's also become a place for people to indulge their sense of self-importance by posting status updates about very mundane aspects of their lives. It's also an opportunity for the more vain to upload 40 different photographs of themselves, all taken by holding a camera at arms length. It can lead to all sorts of foolish drama: "She didn't change her status to 'in a relationship'! Gasp! She doesn't really love me!" Far better to do without all that. I would never think it's a "red flag" for someone not to have an account. All the more power to them.
OliveOyl
My BF doesn't have a FB account and I'm glad. He says he has no interest in it at this time. He is in his early 50s so that probably has something to do with it.
oaks
No, but on FB you are already sharing all kinds of personal information. Anything from where you work to what movies you like. You list your family members and your friends for all to see. So why exclude something so important as a relationship? The point of FB is to share who you are and your life. So not listing you GF seems really off. Yes, that makes sense. I realise the difference is that I don't share those things on facebook (other than who my friends are, which only my friends can see). I've got family on facebook, but they aren't listed as anything other than friends (and very few share the same last name so it isn't obvious). I mostly use it for sharing photos of me having fun with my friends or for arranging to meet with them. Maybe we'll see how I feel when I have a girlfriend (and what her views are) but for now I'm happy that my close friends will always know whether I'm in a relationship or not (because when I am they'll be bored of me telling them about her) without having to display it for the other 300 people who can see my profile. My family knows who they are I laugh about this but when I first created an account I sent my wife a request to add her on my page as my wife.. she never did accept my request .. but it isn't hard to figure out she is my wife.. Author Rinnix
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that way. I often get people saying "Why don't you have a FB?" "You're lying just to not add me." All the people who were previously on my list just had ovee 100 pictures in alluring poses, and vulgar statuses. Have to love the younger generation. johan
What are you trying to hide, Rinnix?
NicoleM
I've always said if someone doesn't want to add you they must be hiding something. My ex never ever added me and would change the subject when I said hey I am on FB add me! I had my suspicions for sure....He also made it private:rolleyes:
