military long distance relationship

Hey Everyone,

I'm new to this website and I'm desperate to talk to anyone who may be having the same problems as me. I've been in a long distance relationship for a little over two years with my boyfriend who is a Marine and stationed in North Carolina. Lately, we have been having severe issues; fighting a lot, trust issues, communication, etc. He just recently got back from a tour overseas about three months ago, and since then the fighting has been getting worse. Is anyone else in a military LDR? Any advice, or just a helpful friend would be greatly appreciated:)

I know exactly what you're going through. My man is stationed overseas right now.

We've been there with the fights and they're always over something related to distance. We have the trust issues too but that seems to be normal in LDRs. I mentioned to a friend once that I've never had trust issues before and her reply was "you've never been in a LDR".

The one thing that seems to work in our favor is that we'll hash things out until the problem gets solved. I tell him what I need from him and he does the same. That has worked for us.

Don't let the lines of communication die.

Will you be able to be together soon?

Fighting can be good. It can also be bad. What types of things are you fighting over and why?

I was. sometimes it can take time to adjust. Try to be patient with him. But that said, don't let him treat you like an ass either.

It can be a tough transition for them when they get back. Just hang in there and be supportive and reassure him but that doesn't mean to let him treat you like crap.

I know it's hard for some military to be accustomed to cussing up a storm and all the *****-talking they do with each other during a year long deployment when they are around nothing but that 24/7. And of course, the "on edge" feeling he more than likely had during the deployment and any PTSD he may have developed... so many things.

2hurt2holdon I'm really sorry that you're so upset. I was married to a soldier stationed in Ft. Bragg NC and I definitely know how you're feeling. Couples in LDR's will fight because the insecurities get to us; sad but true. When my ex got back from Afghanistan he was totally different and had some severe trust issues. Keep in mind how many of those guys come home to cheating spouses, their house gone, bank accounts emptied; it's sad but I've seen it all. There's a lot of stress that comes with these deployments. Keep the communication open and maybe try to go see each other and talk. Best of luck to you!
