FeelingSmall
Anyone ever had to get a biopsy done?? I had what I thought was a sun blister on my face but it didn't go away... I went to the doctor and they now want to do a biopsy. I'm scared to death. How awful is it?
Finch
Hiya Small! I have never have a biopsy, but I have had plenty of other medical tests and I understand your worry. I tend to start crying as soon as I walk into a doctor's office, just out of general stress! As I also live in Canada, I can say that in my experience, whenever I've had to go in for something that I've been scared about the doctors have always done their best to explain what's happening and what to expect. Call your doctor and ask for information about what to expect from the procedure - having lots of information can help you feel more in control and less frantic. I also always find it helpful to bring someone with me to appointments for tests or procedures. So I suggest bringing along a friend or relative who can help keep you relaxed and maybe even make you laugh.
whichwayisup
Wow, I'm in the same position as you! Recently I had a pinkish mole looked at by the Dermatologist and she wants to remove it (middle of this month) and have it biopsyed too, and I'm worried and freakin' a bit as well. My husband is coming with me just to ease my nerves, so make sure to bring someone with you, boyfriend, mom, sister or a friend.. I have no idea what they do, but I assume they'll freeze around it so when they take it out it won't hurt. My Dermo did tell me I'll have a little scar on the side of my neck though. Hope all goes well. When is your appointment?

I also hate going to the doctor (Who likes it? haha) As far as taking someone with me, unfortunately I'll be going it alone, I only know two people here in the city... Both are currently away. Gross. Thanks for the reply! Wow, I'm in the same position as you! So scary, I never would have imagined it would actually be something to worry about. I'll be going alone, but that's ok. Well not really, but it will have to be. I hope all goes well with you too. Update! Thanks for sharing, it does make me feel a little better.
cerridwen
I've had a biopsy. Here's what they did: There were two areas they took skin from, so my doctor took a very thin needle and gave a small injection locally to numb the places. That wasn't particularly comfortable because one was the soft place behind the ankle bone, and the other was the wrist. The wrist didn't hurt. After that, you're golden. They take a small scalpel and take their sample. You don't feel anything except a small bit of pressure when they stitch you up. I came back 2 weeks later to have the stitches removed. That was painless. Neither of my scars are noticeable now. It took them a couple of months to fade. It really wasn't bad, OP. I'm pretty tan too and thought I'd have tiny white scar spots but it's not the case. Pain again, is minimal. You'll be just fine.
