Anxiety about new job and moving

Recommended Posts

I've accepted a new job that is a great career move but it's out of state and in a location that I'm not exactly thrilled about. My supervisor told me that within a year or two I could be transferred to another location or advance to a new location. I'm so scared and nervous, though. I moved back to my hometown about a year and a half ago and made friends and now I'm sad to be leaving all of them.

Since finishing college three years ago, I've basically been a nomad moving from one place to another for jobs. This past year was the longest I stayed in one place. I never thought I'd settle down at this point of my life in my hometown, but now I almost wish I could. Unfortunately, with the career I'm in, you have to move where the jobs are. But I'm scared about starting over and meeting new people, meeting men, getting everything set up.

I've started over so many times. I went to a college where I knew no one. My first job out of school was on the other side of the world and I knew no one. Everyone says I must be used to it. The thing is, as I get older and do it more and more, it has become harder and scarier. The lonely nights at home, weekends spent alone, etc., can be hard to deal with.

I guess I just feel like I've become more dependent on others, which I dont know how to change.

I told myself I will give the job/new state a year. After a year I can revaluate to see if there is potential to move within the company or take another job.

Any other ideas on how to calm down and enjoy the ride?

How old are you?

What are your qualifications?

In these times one is lucky to even get a job (nemployment rate in US is around 9%).

The nature of your job is such taht you have to move a lot.

If it is not what you want please consider changing your job (but dont quit the current job till you find a new one).

I can answer you more after you provide more info about yourself.

bottomline: dont worry much yet. economic crisis is still on and you ar lucky you have a decent job. you will have ample oppurtunities later. think positive.
