quietGuy13
I've never told anyone about my speech problems. And people just think i'm quiet but they do'nt know why. This woman speech therapist i called her and she sounded nice and helpful. And she brought the price down from 240 to 100. cause i told her i'm unemployed. She might think i want to go everyweek. but no no. If i go again, after the first appt, i will go next month or 2 months from now. Cause i don't have money now(my savings are going down) Anyways, wish me good luck. As i said before, I don't look mentally ill and i can speak Ok if i have some confidence and if it's something i know about like my hobbies or my medical symptoms( that's why i talk more with doctors who will listen to me) but i also have a lot of trouble with things and concepts that are more difficult to talk about. Ruby Slippers
I think it's really cool that you're going to get help for a problem that I'm sure can be hard to ask for help with. I respect the courage this must have taken. Good luck!!

quankanne
I'm proud of you for making that first step ... just remember that we all start out crawling and learn to walk by taking baby steps until we conquer the art of walking. meanwhile, have you seen the movie "The King's Speech"? Very moving picture about how the King of England (the present queen's daddy) learned to overcome a stutter. It took hard work, but after overcoming his desire to always belittle himself for that impediment, he accomplished what he set out to do. and, remember this: All of us have something we're trying to overcome, so you're not an oddball ... just a guy determined to do whatever he can to overcome the problem. And that's a huge thing.
Ross MwcFan
Good luck! What is wrong with your voice? My voice is messed up, sometimes it sounds normal, but then it goes very croaky, sometimes words don't come out properly at all because it can sometimes sound so broken, and I'll have to repeatedly clear my throat. The pitch can suddenly change too, and sometimes it'll sound weak and wobbly. I've got no idea what's going on, it never used to be like this, but it's been like it now for over a year. It makes me feel very self concious when speaking. I'll be going to a health clinic at the end of this month to see what's up. I think the most likely reason is, because I haven't socialised for so long, my voice has weakened, due to under use. Edited July 6, 2011 by Ross MwcFan
Author quietGuy13
Ok guys!!!! I'm back!!!!!!!!! I had my first speech therapy session. It was great. She helped me alot. We talked about many things including my history and she noticed my speech problem. She also gave me tips on jobs and a career. Although that was not what i went for But she said she helps people with careers too soshe helped me. Then she saw my tongue had something strange and realized why i have speech problems. My tongue is weak and abnormal, that's why i have problems speaking. Then she also noticed that i was slow because of my accident. So she helped me. We also did tongue exercises, and they were difficult. Then she gave me some great hope for jobs etc.

Author quietGuy13
The therapist helped me with my job problems and said i can still go back to school for a 2 year degree and she said i can still do it even if i'm 31. She said what i studied in school was just not for me, that's why i got F's and failed(Computer science) and i had to switch to another major(which i passed thus graduated but which doesn't have jobs for it ) . i've never had a career and just going from temp job to temp job so she said it would be good for me, or to at least think about it. But i don't know what todo. I'm reading and seeing videos where they say college can be a waste of money. But i heard and asked the employment center, and they said if i qualify they pay for it. i dont know how that works though. and how would i do it? i mean, i still need money for rent and eating so i can't just be studying . but if i studied, wouldn't i be a full time student? so i wouldn't have time to work.
