How long does cocaine used once stay in your system?

I have a friend who just tried cocaine for the first time and he just got into a school that requires a drug test in a few weeks. As a medical student I told him it stays in his system for 3 days but the metabolite stays longer. Has anyone had any experience with this. Would it be ok after 3wks?

Three weeks is enough time. It will still be traceable through a hair sample but that's not standard practice.

For an occasional user or one-time use, the benzoylecgonine should be out of the urine in 3-5 days. As one uses more and more regularly, the clearing after last use takes longer, as FF mentioned, three weeks should be the max under normal circumstances for urine testing. If the employer/agency uses other methods of testing, results vary. As an example, with hair testing, the longer the hair, the longer back in history the test can look for the metabolites.
