Consolidated Discussion - Older/younger woman/man and age gap dating

Recommended Posts

Never said anything about anyone not being able to keep up....I guess its more of an issue in finding a person willing to do the types of things that might not be "age appropriate" for the particular person that doesnt just fall in line with the others his/her age..

I know nothing of OLD, but just from what I have learned here, there is absolutely no doubt that if I listed the types of things that I normally enjoy doing and try to find someone my own age that would be interested in those things, then the pool all of a sudden gets very small...At the same time, if you took those same things and attached them to a guy that was, say 28 or 30 years old....then there are probably tons of women..

And I am sure if the roles were reversed, then its probably the same for a woman..

So if that man/woman wants to stay in their same age group, then they are going to have to pick from a very limited group of people...and hope all(or some) of the other areas of compatibility work out...

All of this is pure speculation on my part..Im not dating and have no idea what its like out there..If there are all kinds of 50 year old women with rock hard bodies and are heavily into athletics and adventure....then Ill gladly stand corrected....:)

TFY

There aren't that many people who are heavily into athletics or adventure of any age. I have learned to settle for friendships with people who do, and hope they have a single friend... Or that one of them may become single at some point.

Why aren't you dating?

I just said that it almost always takes money. I didn't say you have to be rich. I'm not rich but I've been sleeping with a 24 year old girl worthy of Playboy, for over two years [i'm 55]. And in many ways she is more mature than many woman my age.

But pretending will only get you one-night-stands or short venues. For quality time and a real connection it takes honesty and trust, just like any relationship. She knows all about my financial ups and downs.

Yes, and if you stopped paying her, you know she would be gone. I guess that is one version of honesty and trust.

No intelligent, put together, emotionally healthy person commits to a person old enough to be their parent.....

That's just biased and unfair. Maybe not actively pursuing, but one of my best friend is in a relationship with a man 19 years older because she fell in love with him as friends. Only older guy she's dated; only younger woman he's dated... and they are perfect together.

Does this mean a man shouldn't expect to have to pay for an older woman? I wonder how long an older woman would stick around if a guy wasn't paying for their dates. If I'm paying for my relationship, why not at least pay for a younger, more attractive woman?

Thumbs-down. Geez.

If you are comparing an escort girl with a woman you date, then this says it all.

I'm not comparing a woman I date to an escort at all. I never once said anything about escorts.

How many threads do we see in here where women are complaining about their boyfriend not paying for dates? Are you saying most women wouldn't call a guy cheap and complain, or leave him if he wasn't willing to pay when they spent time together? All I said was that if a guy has to pay when dating a woman, why not pay for a younger woman? Why is a man paying for things suddenly a problem if the girl he is seeing is significantly younger than he is? If men are suddenly no longer expected to pay, then I will happily bump some of those threads so the ladies can change their position.

Again, just to be clear, I am in no way talking about escorts.

The conversation was about Robert's escort who is 30 years younger than him and he is paying her for sex. So you replied to this.

I'm not a woman that I expect my date to pay for me, I have had my own money since I was 19 and I in no circumstances believe that a man should pay for my company. Added to that is the fact that almost all men do it (treat) only out of obligation and not cause they feel it. This is about dating, when the couple lives together or gets married it's a totally different issue which is now irrelevant. So no, a guy does not have to pay to date a woman. If he chooses to do it cause he is afraid of being called cheap or of the woman complaining, then it's a decision he consciously makes to stay with such a woman who will judge him about this and he should not complain about it. But this is a completely different issue than paying a woman (young or old, doesn't matter) to have sex with you, isn't it?

I don't mind if I see a couple with a huge age difference, but if this girl or guy were my friend or relative, I'd sure as hell advise them against this relationship, not cause I'm mean, but cause the statistics show that they rarely last.

(I'm proud of myself, I managed to talk about various off topic issues and then come back on topic :p)

(shakes head). Falling in love with your 'dad' isn't love, IMHO. On the other hand, who am I to judge if someone can't get any better? Or can't be bothered to work on their issues. Condemn them to a life alone? No. Just don't ask me to call it normal or healthy.

At the risk of discouraging you to share =/, I have noticed there seems to be a theme in your posts about your new boyfriend that he seems a little easy to influence. You've already got him riding the bike next to you when you jog which is something you've mentioned wanting here before. Most women don't like a guy that easy to control, one they pursue and is that vulnerable to suggestion. It's a situation on the uniqueness level of an age gap relationship.

There's nothing wrong or unhealthy about it, but it is a little weird seeing you so hostile toward one unique situation when you've got your own very unique situation going on.

I fail to see your unfair point here? One is getting paid upfront in cash for companionship and perhaps some extra. The latter is going on dates with men, expects to be taking care of, and more often than not ends up giving it up after a couple of dates.

Unless people are engaged or married, most of the time what ends up happening is that serial dating goes on....even married people stray a lot so that doesn't solidify anything.

I was thinking about this thread as I read the news that 53 year old George Clooney got married to a 36 year old woman. If my 36 year old daughter would give me the news that she is marrying a 53 year old guy I really would not be too happy about it. I know it's George Clooney but even then. He's 17 years older than her and if they want to have children, he will be 70 when his kids are teenagers. I find 17 years a big difference. When she will be 60 he will be 77 (that is if he's still alive!). If I would go for a guy that much older than myself right now, I would have a 67 year old boyfriend. *shiver*

I've never cared about George Clooney anyway, I don't find him very goodlooking, not really a nice face, just well kept for a 53 year old. I haven't seen a movie from him where I found his acting really heartbreaking or deep and his relationship history does not give me the impression that he is not shallow.

I am just afraid that now all 53 year old guys will think they can "get" women in their thirties. I don't think too many women in their thirties will be interested though.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Control? Vulnerable to suggestion? He is already active. Not that tough to convince him to go on a very nice 10-15 mile bike ride on a beautiful day. Plus, there is the nice view. Me in running tights, lol. Not to mention I get extra frisky after a long run. Sounds like a smart guy to me ;)

Maybe riding a bike is your idea of hell, but it isn't his. You really can't compare something that trivial with a daddy/daughter age gap.

I share your feelings about Clooney. I've never understood what any of the fuss is about.

My main bother with HER choice is that I feel she's definitely married down with him. She must be a total beeotch, poor self esteem, or have some other major flaw if she has to marry a guy that much older... is my opinion. Catherine Zeta Jones is bi-polar, for example.

Yes, there are certainly lots of women with daddy issues. Hopefully the child she has will not repeat his/her parent's mistake.

To help put your hot n bothered mind at rest, am sure you are probably aware of all the rumours surrounding George Clooney and his prowess or lack thereof in the bedroom and which side his bread might be buttered on?

I think it's fair to say there won't be any kids involved in this hookup.

Why is your fears any different to what is already happening right now anyway? I mean you have a 48 yr old woman on here dating a 35yr old, and there are many men out there who aren't movie stars or rich dating young women. Personally, I know there are many men like me who aren't really into younger women (emphasis on younger)

George popped the big question in April after a whirlwind seven-month courtship, presenting Alamuddin with a 7-carat emerald-cut diamond ring set in platinum, which was estimated to have cost $750,000.

She is not exactly a crazy beautiful woman, but she has that exotic look going for her just like her name, she is also NOT blonde (i.e. most men prefer to take home brunettes and dark hair to their parents), and is an international human rights lawyer.

I was going to say the 17 yr gap might just be a tad too much, but just because she is an international lawyer, doesn't mean she has everything she needs. The George Clooney hookup might just be her way of grabbing worldwide attention as this is making international news.

There are tons of women with daddy issues out there unfortunately. I know a woman who met her 1st husband when she was 17 and he was 45 and married. She had 2 kids by this man

And her parents, including 'daddy', have interacted with more heads of state and dignitaries than George ever will. We tend to dismiss cultures of the middle east, especially those not aligned with Israel, but there are a lot of very successful and well-connected people, even in countries like Lebanon. 'Daddy' still lives there and is reported, along with mom, to have paid for the wedding, as is traditional in their culture. Not a bad deal for George. Marries a formidable younger bride with a formidable mother in law and father in law. Good show. I'll make bets that she'll be pregnant within a year.

Here's a shot of George and FIL after the wedding.

True, strategic, political and all for show. Some start out with the right intentions, but in the case of celebrities, it's really about the show.

Still upset George didn't check in with me before this decision. :p

Ha, I've got a friend who's ten days older than George and is a doppleganger, if only an inch or two shorter. Never married either. Staunch Catholic. Don't get between him and the church. Yep, he dates younger women too :)

I have dated women much younger than me, mainly because women my age for the most part have kids and other issues that make having a relationship difficult. Age is just a number....

I do -- and I have. The one I posted about in the dating forums is 40. She has 2 kids -- and is a gigantic PITA! Too much drama and I don't want to deal with that. I live a very relaxed, free lifestyle -- very spontaneous! I like to ENJOY life not have someone berate or yell because some need wasn't met that wasn't made clear to me.

I do not understand how people stress out their entire lives over small chickens. Doesn't make sense...

Clarify please lol

I don't do drama. I find joy in little things - flowers, birds, bees, butterflies. I'm happy just to wake up in the morning. I don't sweat small stuff.

I may not have all I want, but I have all I need.
