dreaming4ever
Hi, I have only been living in the town I'm living now for about 6 months and I need to make some new friends. Any idea how to do that?? I know that sounds weird but I'm not really the type of person who likes to drink so I don't really go to bars or anything like that. Hope you guys have some ideas for me...I really want to have some close friends with similar interests....thanks!
midori
Volunteer work is a great way to meet people, and there are usually so many opportunities. With warm weather on its way there may be community beautification volunteer groups if you like gardening and working outdoors. Youth groups, soup kitchens -- you name it! I volunteer to drive shut-ins to their doctor appointments and I've met several interesting people that way (granted, not people my age, but it's great to interact with people from all walks of life). Libraries often have opportunities to volunteer as a reading tutor, storybook reader, or reading aide for elderly or vision-impaired people. Hospitals need volunteers. It's always hard to predict who you'll meet. And it won't happen right away, usually (I get weirded out by overly friendly people anyway). Just sign up for something you believe in and will enjoy, and then see who you meet.
moimeme
There are clubs of all sorts. Many towns even have newcomer clubs. Check your local community papers to see what sorts of societies and clubs exist. You can also attend local festivals and concerts and strike up conversations with folks around you. You could take some classes in something that interests you.
monkey00
my bro's in about a rough spot as you, he moved to delware for work about a yr ago workplace is no good, since most of them arent looking for friends and everyone's established. what he's done now is volunteering at an animal shelter joined a bowling league joined a gym you could try joining clubs or even take place in some community events i dont know his rate of success with friend making, but i ask him "isnt it tough down there, hard to make friends, home/work daily?" he says it is tough, so i guess he's not really successful. i've been living in nyc most of my life and attend college, it's quite tough to make new friends @ college if u ask me. most of the ones that were close to being friends have become acquaintences. once u hit that age in life, pretty much everyone's established and already have their own circle of friends. and arent looking or seeing a need or have time to make new friends, that's how the majority of ppl are after they get out of school...they already feel security with their current friends
