js77
This is probably for people in the UK. I picked up a prescription today & discovered that my doctor has cut the dose of anti-depressant medication I take in half. He did this without consulting me in any way - no appointment, no examination, not a single word has been exchanged between us on this matter. I've been seeing various mental health experts over a period of around 18 months to two years, all of whom agree that I should be on the stated dose which has inexplicably been cut in half. Surely a doctor, that I haven't even spoken to, can't override the opinions of consultants that have examined me in depth over a relatively long period of time. If the testimony of the specialists I've been seeing had any kind of ambiguity to it, then I could maybe understand the decision to alter the dose, but their findings which my GP of course has read couldn't be any clearer - lowering the levels of the pills is absolutely not an option right now. I've got an appointment with this doctor in a couple of days & would like to know where I stand. thanks
FitChick
Try to get off the drugs and treat your depression with nutrition. Vitamin D and calcium are good, as are omega 3s. Google Depression and Nutrition -- lots of information. My siblings are depressed and my late mother was depressed so it's partially genetic. I am the only one drug free and I take lots of supplements, try to eat nutritionally dense foods and workout regularly. Most anti-depressants are little more than placebos with side effects as recent research has shown. There was a long Newsweek article about this a few years ago. You might be able to google that as well. Take back control of your life. It's possible and I'm just one of millions who have done it.
