When parents don't aprove the bf or gf

I think it's alright have them to their saying to it but they should then leave it at that.

Some keep on bringing this up every single day and expressing their dislikes towards their child, why? Isn't once or at the most twice enough already?

My mother used to drive me crazy with this for 4 entire years. At one point we would argue on a daily basis because of him.

We get your dislikes but please enough already, let us make our mistakes. How about if I start talking trash about my mother's friends everyday? I bet she won't like it at all.

Ok he's no longer my boyfriend but we still keep in contact as friends. It just wasn't working out but at least I didn't gave up.

Finally: What exactly does this solves? Instead it makes the child go rebel against you and get closer to the bf or gf.

We don't need to overly hear the same thing every day. It's annoying and we get your point.

Thus by doing that, you're not doing a good job as a parent. It's not like it's going to solve the issue and we'll say ''Yes, you're right, I broke up with him, thanks mom''. It's not... All it does is make you sound a like a child... seriously.

I agree, if they don't like your choice, all they have to do is talk about it in a adult way with you, and then just leave it at that.

I would say it depends on the age of the people involved (some 14 year old girl who does not know any better)

, but usually, it should be what you think, not what your parents should be all that matters

I was referring mainly if the child is 18 years and older. In my case, I was already 19 years old (now I'm 24).

I agree completely. There should be exceptions if the person is a minor, or if the spouse is abusing them, etc, but in most cases parents should just learn to let go.

Parents want what is best for their children, and they want their children to make good choices in life. Unfortunately, some parents get a bit overbearing in trying to control those choices. You just have to keep saying, rather than defending your choice, say "It's my choice to make, and I don't want to hear any more about it."
