Feeling better, principles, etc.

I've dropped in to gander briefly, but I haven't been participating in discussion lately. It's sad to see the new names and the return of old names - but it becomes increasingly clear that this horrible pain is something that is shared by so many people, and it happens every day. I hope everyone is doing something fun for the weekend, or spending time constructively at least.

Wanted to strangle my counsellor at the VA today, but we had a good discussion about principles by which we choose to live our lives by.... or not as the case seems to be. When life goes down the crapper, or things become difficult one can choose to fall back on the emotional responses - what 'feels right' at the moment, or one can follow principles. Principles are harder, maybe you can see where the person you were involved with failed to live by their principles. Or any principle - and did what felt right in the moment.

Unfortunately, what felt right was getting rid of you. Or getting rid of me :o. That's the extent of it. I'm willing to bet that if you are here pining, then loyalty, fidelity, commitment or some other synonymn that works for you is one of your principles. It's a good one to have, and remember to hold it dear. Your principles may seem like a liability - but think of all the great leaders, famous people from history who stuck to their principles in the face of overwheleming odds - and if they did not succeed in what they set out to do, they nonetheless overcame great adversity.

Take little Genghis Khan - he had a simple set of principles or values (Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women) and with those... er..... noble truths in his heart, he managed to go from the son of a lesser tribal leader to conquering the known world. Ok. That's a terrible example. It's late. I'm tired.

A principle is like a compass point. When the crazy storms of flight and fancy have passed, what remains is what matters - so let that guide you.

What are your principles?

live my characters, not by reputation.

to me that means being with the people that support me, and not with the ones that hurt me.

and not to change and pursuit anyone because of wanting to be popular neither.

Hmmm never really thought of this. Relationship principles?

I attended a seminar by this man who wrote a book called, "Whale Done: The Power of Positive Relationships," and one thing he said resonated with me so much and I try to apply it everyday: Treat your relationships as a bank account. The more you put into it the more your account (relationship) will grow. Try to put more in than you take out.

Make compromises, try to have some faith, lower your expectations, make equal sacrifices, don't give too much at first, trust your instincts, don't be afraid to be honest, always try to do the right thing even if it may hurt you both
