Sugarkane Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 I want to make new friends and there's no young people at my work. So I'm at an disadvantage. I want to join some meetups, but I feel anxious. Its just easier when you already know someone, so you feel less nervous and have a way in. Any advice? Have other people done this?
antinko Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 I joined a variety of different meetups and group activities. I was also nervous but just had to step out of my comfort zone. I knew nothing would change if I just did what felt comfortable and safe. After the first few meetings of being a bit quiet, my confidence grew and now I'm a lot more outgoing. Also, if you choose meetups where there are other people in your situation, you'll find that you're not the only one feeling nervous and there may well be participants who are there to help new people settle in.
