Do Men Have the Right to Trade in Their Aging Wives for Younger Ones?

Recommended Posts

Generally most marital relationships are formed between a more financially secure older man and a beautiful younger woman. I think at face value, this is a fair arrangement because women want a man who can be the main provider of the family while men want a woman who is youthful and beautiful.

However, unlike money, beauty can only fade rather than grow along with time.

Therefore, I think it is also fair for men who remain successful over the course of their marriages to want to trade their wives once they have aged and no longer living up to their bargain for younger and more beautiful women.

So you must also think it is fair for the aging first wife to be awarded an income that maintains her standard of living? Clearly, she did her job and is now being retired, shouldn't she have a decent pension for putting up with all that bull****?

Do you think you should still get paid after you get fired from your work?

That's not a norm I believe. I was dating a girl that was a couple of years younger than me in my youth. She cheated on me. We ended it and she told me that I was a loser and never going to college, work BS jobs for the rest of my life. Well, I got my revenge. By living my life well. I did go to college (a lot of college..found I enjoyed the challange of it) Met my current wife who's two years older than me. She supported and encouraged me throughout every aspect of my life. Now we've been married (happily) for 15 years, I'm a college professor, we OWN our own home, and we take trips everywhere. Last year, we were in Japan, planning a trip to Key Largo in November. Last I heard, the Ex married the guy she cheated on me with. A ambulance driver who gets high all the time.

Definately not the norm! :)

Right by what authority?

Legally, it depends on locality of course, but in most US states they have the right to do whatever they want, provided they pay up.

Morally, they are breaking their word, so I would have to say no. Maybe if it was something extreme like your wife took on 150 pounds and turned into a harpy.

Religiously, well it depends on the religion I suppose, but in general I think not.

Severance pay is a one time payment of a certain amount of money. After that the company has no responsibility to make sure the employee can maintain the same standard of living or whatever.

OMG. My marriage defies nature. I'm doomed. I'm older than my H and I earn more than him. Oh hang on, that can't be possible. Musemaj knows best after all.

I've read a lot of silly stuff on this forum... but this may take the cake.

This is hilarious. Probably because I'm so immature.

Maybe you should spend some of your money to buy yourself a dictionary so you can look up the word 'Generally', woman.

Sure, but in my experience, severance is negotiable.

Maybe you should look up the following words:

misogynist, bigot, sexist, out-dated, ignorant, dull, sad, lonely, ......

Well now wait a minute. Anne's post brings up a good point.

Do women have the right to trade in their aging husbands for younger ones?

Good for the goose, good for the gander, and all that.

Most of the times severance is just a one time payment of money. So your argument is moot. Once a husband 'fires' his wife, he shouldnt have any responsibility to give her anymore regular financial support just like she no longer needs to clean and cook for him or have sex with him.

Yes, except in reality men and women want different things.

Then the marriage contract should say "till I grow tired of you" instead of "till death do us part.

Sure, because people are interchangeable like cars, right?

Makes perfect sense if you don't know what it means to love an individual.

Yea women know love so much that by 'coincidence', the majority of them marry up when they get married.

If anyone should know more about love, it is men. Unlike women, men will accept a woman just the way she is as long as they find her physically and emotionally compatible. They care less whether a woman has a house or not, has a lot of money or not, has a car or not, lives on her own or not, has a good career or not, has a high education or not, comes from a good family or not, and so forth.

In reality thats how most people see marriage. Thus the over 50% divorce rate.

I'm talking about love, not initial attraction.

Years into the relationship--long after the time of selecting a mate based on beauty or wealth or status--and you are looking at the person you've grown to love with deepness you could only have imagined when you dated and wed--"trading up" seems perfectly ridiculous.

There will ALWAYS be someone younger, prettier, wealthier, or more successful. None of that means someone better.

better yet they can say married to their out-dated wives and keep half their assets and just fool around on the side with younger and firmer gold-diggers...but discretion is of the utmost.

Legally they do but if a woman has been faithful, loving and good to her husband he is a piece of crap for doing so. These men deserve to get played by their younger women.
