Vesna
Until three weeks ago I was a 5 day a week drinker, to the point of getting hammered and I was stoned on top of that. I woke up to what I decided was my last hangover ever and have not had a drink for three weeks. I am trying to quit smoking as well ( i have cut down to a couple of cigarettes a day) which has been an ongoing project for about five years. I feel like crap. My face is puffy and my hair is rough. I have a coldsore under my nose. I'm tired all the time and I feel like I am getting worse, not better. I must have been very constipated because I am afraid to leave the house at present until I am sure I have 'been' enough times. I am constantly nauseous and having dizzy spells. Please share any experiences you have had.
lattp
i myself do not have any experince in that what so ever. but if your wondering how long the benifits will be, itll be for life. when or if yo have kids, they wont be seeing their parent drunk all the time. it could emotionally scar them. also, theres personal benefits. your freinds will start liking sober you and your family too. and also it so much healthier for you. Do it! you might regret it now. but you wont in 10 years:)

Woggle
You might be going through withdrawal and it wouldn't be a bad idea to see a doctor.
sadintexas
Your body is accustomed to functioning with substances. It will take time for it to regulate. It may take some medical intervention to help restore the balance your body should have. Excessive alcohol intake damages the body in so many ways. Our diets are more or less designed to maintain certain levels of vitamins and minerals. If you deplete your body of these, regular diet may not be enough to bring them back to where they should be. Your hormone levels can also be thrown out of whack. Under the influence, you aren't noticing the damage your body has sustained. Sober, it becomes quite apparent. A visit to your doctor to have a complete work up done would be a really good idea. If you'd like to reap the benefits of being sober earlier (although there are benefits NOW) and you want to feel better, make that appointment.
