Occasionally I browse the soft-core sites on the internet to look at naked women and sometimes the sites won't go away when I clik on the X button. It is really frustrating. This happened tonight and I had to shut down my computer and restart it because these hard-core advertisments kept coming back like a virus. Why does this happen? Can it screw up your computer?

Well, I suppose in some very remote and/or perverted way this post is appropriate for The LoveShack forum.

Adult sites are the biggest money makers on the Internet and they spend millions of dollars on the technical side of marketing. Since it is also very competitive, they fight for your business in a number of ways.

The most abusive thing they do is send cookies, or encoded information, to your computer each time you open up an adult site. Most of these cookies are able to identify your Email address so the site can begin a constant flow of Adult site promotions to your Internet mailbox. That's why if you surf these sites often, you should go into your Windows Explorer (right click on the start button, then left click on Explore) and go to your "Cookies" file and delete them.

Very high paid computer geeks are able to program adult sites to call up related sites when you go to close the page. They can cycle up to five or six times before you get a clear screen. The shut down or computer freeze occurs when these sites that you think you are closing in rapid succession are, by preprograming, just going down to your system tray at the bottom of your screen. So what you are doing is overloading your system until it gives up and freezes.

These sites are annoying, irritating, obnoxious, etc. but it seems the guys who really want to see the naked women are willing to put up with it. While there are some very wholesome sites that portray the female body in a very artistic and beautiful way (and these don't do the kinds of things that shut your computer down), there is a very dark world of Internet pornography that will do anything to get your money and show the worst of filth.

No, these sites normally do not contain viruses and these extremely agressive marketing tactics cannot screw up your computer...but that can irritate the hell out of you and ruin your day. Once you reboot, your computer should be just fine...until your next visit to one of these sites.
