I like to drink energy drinks often. For the last week, I've had about 13 in total. I realise energy drinks are bad for your health but I can't kick the habit. I've gone cold turkey before, worst 5 months ever. I had been drinking NOS & Monster, both contain 100 calories & 26-28g of sugar per serving.

I've switched to Rockstar Recovery (lemonade, YUM!), it only contains 10 calories & 1g of sugar per serving. It says on the can it's intended for hydration but labels fib. Does anyone here know of any energy drinks that are actually okay to drink? Is Rockstar Recovery okay? Specifically for someone who exercises.

I've tried Monster Absolute Zero but I'm not impressed w/ the effects & taste. 5hour energy is disgusting too & I'm not a big coffee drinker.

I drink a lot of water (2-3 bottles a day) too so nobody panic. :)

The active ingredient in energy drinks is highly addictive caffeine, too much of which can make you quite ill and quite dependent. Drink one of them every other day if you must but what you are doing now is killing yourself over time. It happens all the time. Many people couldn't handle what you are drinking now.

You may need clinical assistance in withdrawing from this dangerous amount of caffeine.

If you need that kind of energy, work out, take vitamins, eat correctly and just be like nature created you. Adam and Eve did not have the advantage of caffeine or energy drinkgs and they did just fine....well, almost!

If you're looking for a pre-workout "pick me up", there are many pre workout supplements that are much cheaper in the long run than going and buying a Rockstar or Monster every time.

Look into something like Body Octane-Game Day, or Jack3d, or 1 More Rep, etc. They should all contain similar things: Beta Alanine, Citruline Malate, possibly L-Carnitine, possibly amino acids, possibly 1,3 DMAA, and caffeine. They are also low or no calorie.

As far as actual drinks go though, I like the sugar free Rockstar. The lemonade is great too! If you really need a kick in the ass, Spike will pump you up in a serious way. Be careful if you try it though... It's very high in caffeine- you could overdo it easily with the stuff.

The key with any stimulant is hitting the "sweet spot"-enough to make you alert and centered, but not jittery and panicky.

Like Tony T said, make sure that you're not using more than you really need. Low doses are best. Don't rely on stimulants to replace mental toughness in the gym.

I can't do energy drinks but my family buys Redbull sugar free by the case! My daughter works 24 and 36 hour shifts and swears by it for getting her through.

I know caffeine is addictive, that's why I've switched to Rockstar Recovery (contains 160mg of caffeine). Monster contains 160mgs as well but has way more sugar & equals 200 calories a can. NOS, on the other hand, contains 260mg of caffeine & slightly more sugar & calories (I think).

I do work out on a daily basis, but I get so exhausted & hungry afterwards it's just easier to sit back & sip on an energy drink.

My mouth is watering. I'll look into them.

I just looked up Spike, I don't think I could handle that. I've had a Rockstar once before that contained over 300mgs of caffeine & felt as if I were going to have a seizure.

I don't do Redbull. They promised me wings & I never got 'em.

Again, there is no energy involved...it's only caffeine and the energy is short lived and addicting. You're better carrying around a pouch of chocolate covered coffee beans and taking a hit on those every few hours...just a few. True energy comes from eating right and exercising with an appropriate vitamin and mineral supplement taken as necessary.

So how do you know what urine tastes like?
Perhaps he was or is in the military. Or maybe he was in the desert & had to resort to drinking his own. I hear it's salty.

Gatorade is another scam, filtered water, sucrose, flavoring and a bit of salt and potassium. $1.50 for a 24 oz bottle.

The plastic bottle is probably worth more than the contents.
