Losing Faith in Everything....

I keep hitting roadblock after roadblock in my life. I do all of the "right" things. I'm kind, giving, unselfish, caring, and really try to lead a good life. I'm able to learn from these roadblocks and move forward, but it is starting to feel overwhelming for me. In the last 6 months, I have dealt with stuff that doesn't even sound believable. Many people ask how I am coping with everything. I just do.

As soon as I try to pick myself up by my bootstraps, I get knocked right back down again. I have prayed CONSTANTLY for things to improve. They seem to just get worse. People say there is power in prayer. They say that if you pray you will be helped in your time of need. Well, it hasn't done a darn thing for me. I have prayed often, but I haven't asked for much in prayer. Just general well-being, help through the crisis(es) that I am facing, and to not feel alone during my time of need. But, I really feel my prayers are not being heard. I am really starting to lose faith.

I'm at the point where I don't know how much more I can take. I feel so defeated, and feel so alone. I have reached the bottom many times in the last 6 months. People say that is when things will start to improve, right? Well, they haven't. It seems that when I think I can't take anymore, another bad thing happens. If there is a God, why aren't my prayers being answered? Why hasn't help arrived when I so desparately need it to?

Celebrate the fact that you're still standing. For whatever reason, you have lessons to learn and experiences to go through. I call it being 'forged in the fire'.

Get yourself a bunch of theme songs and stick with them. I like 'Hold On' by Dan Hill, 'I'm Still Standing' by Elton John and even 'Tubthumping' by Chumbawamba. I'm not kidding. The words of songs can be powerful affirmations. And, finally, print up a bunch of signs saying 'This, too, shall pass' and stick them up around the house. It will, trust me.

I'm anti-religion so I'm probably the worst person to give advice on this, but this is what I think:

I believe that people accomplish the impossible through their OWN INNER STRENGTH. Not from anywhere else. I suggest that you find that inner strength in you and don't expect it to come from anywhere else. It's there, trust me. You'll be amazed at how strong you are, and what burdens you can carry.

I do think that inner strength comes into play but I also believe in God and he has helped me in time of need. Just try to remember that it is not always fast in coming. Sometimes the signs are small and you may miss them. Keep trying to focus and to pray and by all means search from inner strength from within. God I do believe only those who want to help themselves as well.

Good luck....

People who cope well with experiences that others struggle with report similar coping strategies. Exerting a degree of control is critical. You may not be able to control what is happening to you but you can control (limit) some of the worst effects of your reaction. It's a learned skill. The starting point is to stop expecting rescue. If you believe in God, believe he gave you the inner resources to cope. Papillon is right, the answers lie within.

The human spirit is amazingly resilient. You will survive this bleak time and be stronger for it.

I hope your luck changes soon :)

I have gone through alot of similar things, its sounds like. I have always been a good decent moral person, who always tried to help people, my whole life.

I joined a volunteer organization that went to third world countries to help the unfortunate poor people living there. (what I found out was they were happier in their lifestyles than we are here in the US). I ended up at the short end, because I spent 2 years volunteering for free and came back to the US broke and without direction.

Then I went into financial services, focusing on middle to low income families, to try to educate them on investing and mutual funds. (what I found out was is that although I truly cared about these potential clients, they really didnt care about investing--I wasted 5 years there with the goals to help others)

I was so focused on trying to help others that I didnt even help myself ( I became homeless and ruined my credit).

I was trying to do what I thought God wanted me to do, giving unto others, but what I found out was is that nobody gave a darn about me, so why should I try to help them in anything.

I guess what I am continuing to find out and it is really causing me problems in my life, is that people lie. If you are too nice then you are continually being taken advantage of by those who really do not care one iota about you or me.

You need to stop letting others be in control of you. You (I think I am writing this more for me) need to be the one who says no. YOU need to be the one who makes the decisions. That is probably why things are not getting any better. Do what you truly want to do for once in your life, no matter what anyone else wants from you.

I am sick of worrying for others. I want my own life, the way I want it, and I have to make the hard decisions in my life. It's like you have to harden your heart and be strong.

One thing that your should feel good about is that you know that you have always done what is right in GOD's eyes (and one day you will be rewarded for that). Make sure that you are following His word, but STOP letting people take advantage of you. Pray for Wisdom. And remember to live not by the rules of this world. Keep your head up, just make sure that you are watching where you are walking.

Sometimes these things happen to make us stronger. I keep asking myself the same question, but I keep praying and going to church. I have a friend who was molested at 16,has had nothing but bad relationships. Now her current bf gambles his check away every weekend.

On top of this she is dyslexic, lost her job, just had her house foreclosed on and had to move Sat. ,and 2 weeks ago totaled her car. Her mother also told her no more help and so did her brother who is the guy I have posted on ALOT,my ex. She has 2 cars she cosigned for 2 different exs and they were both repossesed.

The only good thing from this mess is she had a beautiful baby girl about 6 weeks ago. I love her to death, even though her uncle and I are broken up . I stay in touch with his sis(this girl I am talking about)because everyone else has left her. She is on Zoloft because of this and I think it is the only thing getting her through this mess.

So when I am down and feeling sorry for myself,I think of her and what she must be going through and not telling . Keep your chin up and it will get better. If you have hit bottom, you can't go any lower only up!!! :)
