I did juice fasting for a couple of weeks at two separate times. Never went months... how long is the juice fast intended for?

If you eat meats/dairy, make sure you cut those out over at least a span of one week and then eat only raw fruits for a few days/up to a week. After you've been fruit fasting, you can begin on just a juice/water diet (it's easier on the body to wean off of foods and into the juice).

FRESH fruit/vegetable juice is the healthiest and will provide the most energy... the enzymes and nutrients are most active when something is freshly squeezed, so I recommend purchasing a juicer if you haven't already.

Also, there are all kinds of juice fasting recipes online, do a google search. I mixed all kinds of things together : kale, carrot, pineapple, etc.

The only other real tip I have is if you make beet juice (even if it's blended), make sure you dilute it and don't drink very much at first! OMG the horror... I didn't realize the body needed to adjust to it :lmao:

When you break a juice fast, break it gently and with raw fruit. Eat raw fruit for a few days, then begin trying light vegetables. From there you can transition into grains/meats and more heavier things.

I felt a lot better after my juice fasts. When I could finally taste chocolate again, I just about died from the bliss. Made me appreciate other foods a lot more ... but of course I also just felt bouncier and more energetic.

Onyx, I have to know - what was the horror that befell you due to the beets? I love beets! I don't seem to have any issues with them.

I am curious.

LoL.

If I must revisit it...

Vomit and dry heaves... and nasty vile things coming out the other end. I immediately read up on it afterwards and apparently, beet juice can overload the liver and detoxify the body too quickly. If someone downs a cup of beet juice that isn't very diluted and they haven't built up to it at all, it can be pretty bad :lmao:

Beet juice can also contain harmful compounds (that are destroyed in the air) and sometimes it is suggested to keep beet juice in the refrigerator for 2-3 days before consuming.

There are other fresh juices that come with warnings. Fresh grape juice is one... if someone has gastritis or a peptic ulcer (and a few other conditions I think).

Ideally, one reads up on these things before they consume them in order to avoid hazardous effects LoL. I think in general, because "juice" is so potent, the body can't process it very well unless it's properly diluted. Some juices are just more powerful than others and contain an abundance of vitamins which can exhaust specific organs.

Good to know. I've only eaten beets cooked, so maybe something happens with the application of heat that nullifies those side effects.

I didn't know fresh grape juice could cause problems either. The only juice issue was aware of was the interaction of grapefruit juice with many medications. Always good to know more.

And, of course, sorry you got "beet-en". :o

Beet juice can definitely make you sick. It's great if you don't overdo it.

The other interesting one I ran across was cabbage juice. Really good for you, but nearly undrinkable. Beets and cabbage are surprisingly potent.

Carrot juice seems to be the friendliest of them all: tastes good, makes other juices taste good, will turn you a harmless orange color if you drink enough, and you'll be able to see in the dark.

Thank you to everyone who replied. Most helpful/informative.

I am trying the one modeled after Joe Cross, in "Fat, sick and almost dead". I want to find out everything I can as I am going to go all out and want to feel better. I was not aware of stuff like the beets, etc. I dont want to put my health at risk in any way. This is all about me getting in better health, not killing myself.

If anyone has not watched this, please try to and get me some feedback, it does make perfect sense to me.

I have a juicer and a blender. I know the juicer is the way to go from what I heard.

Bottom line on this I want to be a little clearer on my game plan before i put it into play.

Thank you for any more feedback/insight on this issue.

Thank you so much everyone for all the responses out there. Has anyone done it for a week or longer? If so how was your experience with it and how many did you do a day for how long a period total?
