Best type of eating diet for People who can't do workouts?

I'm kinda of disabled.

 

So although long time ago i used to have awesome workouts and thus be trim and fit... now i can't so if i eat too much junk then i will get flab/fat.

 

What is best to eat when you can't have hard strenous exercise anymore and so that you don't gain lots weight?

 

Just forllow the food pyramid?

 

Or become vegetarian?

 

 

This has been my usual diet especially when i was fit:

1. Cereal mornings, with sweet breads at times and banan

 

2. Sandwich , chips, desert, fruit

 

3. Some nice meal like pasta or whatever, or a full plate with beans etc.

 

4. Occasionally Chinese Food orderig

5. Occasionally mcdonald's or some other burger thing

or pizza.

 

6. Cakes, occasionally.

50 cent pies, etc

I'm pretty young, so my metabolism probably helped out a lot but I started to make everything I ate for the past year and a half and I'm in great shape. Even when I wasn't able to exercise for a couple months I was still losing weight.

 

I was 140 lbs and now I'm 110 and that's just from eating natural foods and non-regular exercise. I even eat peanut butter almost every day. I eat chocolate regularly and pretty much anything else I want. The difference is that it's (almost) all homemade with nothing artificial. No additives, no preservatives, no high fructose corn syrup, nothing that I can't buy at a grocery store.

Eat less processed food, i.e. avoid things that have two or more ingredients (other than water) on the label. Eat as much fresh / frozen vegetables as you can.

Personally the diet that I follow is called the ketogenic diet. It's primarily low carb. The best thing about it really is hunger supression. You can still eat your veggies (green ones mostly). I find it super easy to follow, and it's still good for you.

 

If you look at nutrition in simple terms there's macronutrients and micronutrients. Proteins, Fats, and Carbs are macronutrients, vitimins,minerals, and all that other stuff are micronutrients. Most people are pretty familiar with these 3 macros. What they don't realize however is how carbs work. A carrot, apple and piece of cake are work the same way. All carbs end up as sugar in your body (with the exception of fiber).

 

Eating carb heavy foods causes a spike in blood glucose (sugar) which causes insulin production in your body. Insulin is the enemy of fat loss. Insulin is a fat STORAGE hormone. It lowers fat mobility of stored fat.

 

Keto works by switching your body over from an carb based matabolism to a fat based metabolism. Think of Atkins, but with regulated macros and caloric intake.

 

The very simplist explanation I can give of food and how your body uses it is:

If calories in > calories out you'll gain weight.

If calories in < calories out you'll lose weight.

If calories in = calories out you'll stay the same.

 

Working out isn't necessary at all for weight loss (if that's your only goal). For body composition changes you need to do exercises.

 

You can definitely lose weight (and fat) without ever stepping inside of a gym. Check out keto if you're interested. Like anything else go with what works for you. I like it because:

 

1) I'm never hungry

2) All the protein is useful when I lift.

3) Your body more readily burns stored body fat.

Count calories, Ive done that without even doing any working out and I lost a few lbs...and I imagine if I kept it up it would have worked, but ive been working out a lot more and I can tell!

Totally agree with bunny and betterdeal....much of what you're eating now qualifies as junk food.

 

Quit the takeout and processed foods. Limit yourself to "whole" foods that you either eat as themselves (apples, vegetables, lean meats, etc.) or make into meals that you make yourself. If you have to make your own desserts, for instance, I guarantee you'll eat less of them. And when you make them, you at least know what's going into them (and can even modify with less sugar or butter, etc.) and you won't be eating all the extra crap they put into desserts that come out of a package.

 

You didn't mention what you're drinking with these meals. If it's anything but water or unsweetened tea, then you also need to modify there. Cut out sodas, especially.

 

So, the way to lose weight is pretty simple:

 

-Cut out the takeout and fast food. If you want a burger, pizza, or Chinese food, make it yourself.

-Eat whole fruits, vegetables, and lean meats

-Choose whole grains over bread and pasta products made with white, processed flours

-Minimize sweets, and if you do have sweets, make them yourself. Packaged desserts are too easy to get and too filled with crap.

 

If you want any further motivation, turn over the packaging of one of those 50-cent pies and look at the nutritional information. Many of those have enough fat, calories, and sugar to take up 20% or more of what you should be eating in an entire day. All that, and absolutely no nutritional value.

 

Out of curiosity, I just typed in "calories in a Hostess fruit pie" into Google to see what it was: In a Hostess cherry pie, there are 480 calories (yup, 22 percent of a 2200 calorie/day diet), 20 grams of fat (nearly 40 percent of the recommended 50-gram limit of fat per day), 10 grams of which are saturated fat--one of the worst!

 

Just eat smart. You know what's good for you and what's not. Eat what's good for you. Keep the bad stuff limited to special occasions only. And when you eat what you know is bad for you , be conscious that you're doing it. The pounds start packing on when you eat the bad stuff too often and don't make the connection between that and weight gain.

P.S. Also, don't underestimate the effectiveness of light exercise. A 20- or 30-minute walk, a light swim, a casual bike ride. You can be active without necessarily doing strenuous activity.

I have a question though. How do you eat good foods like Squash when i tried and i vomit???

 

Do i really need to eat things that make me vomiT???

 

My mother(Yes i live with parents) gave me a whole plate of squash and i was about to vomit. I ate near half of the plate because i just shoved it in fast and trying to not think about it but it came to the point that i was gagging. and almost gonna vomit.

 

Can i skip Squash and eat something else? Eggs also make me vomit.

Is this a serious question? If you don't like squash don't eat squash. You don't ever HAVE to eat any particular food.

That response made me laugh! :laugh: No you don't have to eat squash! But if your question is whether you should eat FRUITS AND VEGETABLES, then the answer is well, yeah. There are hundreds of different types of fruits and vegetables out there, and you'll need to find the 10 or 20 or 30 that you like, so you can add them into your diet. That's true of any foods. There's a wide range of foods in the vegetable, fruit, dairy, and protein categories. Don't like eggs? Eat chicken. Don't like chicken? Eat lean beef. Don't like beef? Eat pork prepared in a healthy way. Don't like meat? Eat protein-rich foods like beans, lentils, and quinoa. And so on.

 

But if your only preference is for oily, fatty foods (i.e., Chinese food, McDonalds), and you don't want to change that, then you're not going to see any change in your weight or health.

 

Another question that might be implied in your post is how you will eat healthy if your mother prepares all your meals? Can you cook and prepare meals? Or learn to cook and prepare meals? If so, start. Your mother would probably love to have a dinner cooked for her now and then! But if not, and if you don't have any say in what foods you eat, then you'll have a problem. However, if your parents are willing to support you in eating healthier, and help you find the foods and meals that are high quality, then you just need to work together toward that goal.

 

And if your question is "what's healthy?" then you should also consult a book or Web site on healthy eating. There are a lot of resources out there that offer recipes and explain how to prepare good-tasting, high-nutrient, high-fiber, protein-rich food with the appropriate amounts of calories and healthy fats (monounsaturated, such as olive oil or canola oil). (A magazine such as Cooking Light is one place to start.) These are foods that also avoid bad fats (saturated, trans fat, such as butter or lard) and too much sugar.
