Using WAX for the first time to remove unwanted hair

It's my first time to use wax to remove hair. Is it really normal if some of the hairs won't come off and there are blood stains on my skin? Do I have to wait until the hair grows about 3/8 in height?

I waved my underarms once....just to see what it was like.

Half of it didn't come off and my armpits bled for a while. It is sensitive skin

OWWWW

Moral of the story, I have never waxed my underarms since

Too much pain for not enough results... OUCH.

My friend was getting married and going on a cruise for the honeymoon. She didn't want to worry about shaving, so she went for the first time to get waxed. Her legs and other areas were red and tender for days... she couldn't hardly walk

They told her that over time it wouldn't hurt so much, the more she had it done, the better it would get... that her skin would be conditioned for it.

I won't even try it, if Mel Gibson can't do it without a leather band in his mouth (What a Woman Wants) ... I sure can't :D

Hey, kat :bunny: what method did you used instead to remove unwanted hair? I also have a sensitive skin (no wonder I also bled when I did my first wax).

I love wax - my hair is coarse enough that I'd have to shave daily if not for wax =( so i have tons of experience. Here's some info in random order:

First of all, you do get used to the pain.

If your hair is thick, some bleeding is absolutely normal (my underarms and bikini always bleed a lil).

It's important to buy kits that contain soothing cream, to be put on right after waxing.

I also prefer to stick to sugaring (all-natural water-soluable wax).

It's CRUCIAL to put it on and rip it off in the right directions. If not sure, pay for it once, and watch closely how it's done (note that it's diff't for everyone).

It often takes two GOs to take off all the hair from an area, especially if the hair is short.

Make sure you stretch your skin WELL and in the right direction - this'll prevent pain, bruises, bleeding.

All in all, wax rocks. It hurts, but the results last. And don't worry abt letting it grow - you don't need it longer than 1cm to wax again, and the lil fuzz won't bother anyone.

happy waxin'!

Legs and underarms I shave, other places I wax and use an emjoy (epilady)

I got a waxing done on my bikini area before a trip. the first time I did it, it wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. Then I shaved the area for about a year, then went on another trip and got another waxing. this time, it was the most painful experience. She said it was from shaving and to cut that out. Eventually, after more and more waxings, it would be less painful.

for the first time, I bought my own waxing kit. It's called Nads. It's a cream that doesn't need to be hot. I've had it for 4 days. I'm really nervous to use it and have been putting it off....anyone ever try this? If so, how was it? Painful? Efficient?

At least I can scream in the privacy of my own home.

From a mans perspective I’ve tried it and it didn’t hurt that much. Once you rip it off it hurt for like 3 seconds and the pain stopped, it did bleed a little and it went red around the area I waxed but it was still worth it. I don’t know about you but hair comes back sooner then I expected, I also assumed there’d be less because that’s what the pack said but I now have to do it again and I’m not looking forward to it.

This is the second time I'm using my sugar-based wax. It was more effective than my first-time waxing, but I have noticed that there are still hairs that wouldn't come off when I waxed. Is this normal or do I need to practice how to rip properly so that the hairs would stick to the waxing paper?

Nads sucks. Not only is it ineffective at removing hair, in my experience, but then you are left sticky to boot.

The best advice I can give you is to have it done by a professional. If you can't or won't do that, then use hard wax. Cerepil (the blue kind) is the best brand, but I think they won't sell it to you unless you are a licensed esthetician. Gigi makes a microwave hard wax that is surprisingly good. The good thing about hard wax is that it doesn't stick to the skin - just the hair.

And even with the best wax job, you'll have strays that will need to be plucked.

I hope you'll get waxed at least 10 times before trying it yourself. My sister is pretty crazy about that so after years of seeing how it's done, she decided to do it herself! It took her more than 5 hours and she ruined everything in the kitchen. Everything!!! clothes, furniture!!She told me she needed weeks to completely get it off her fingers... She seemed pretty convinced she had it on her teeth too  ! Lord, do I miss her!

i choose a night when my boyfriends out. i blast my favorite tunes and have some drinks. i could never wax my underarms - you all are crazy. but it is worth it for the bikini line. just keep the drinks flowing, and it will be over before you know it. it will still hurt like hell, but it won't be as bad (or you just won't care as much).

I got a bikini wax in a salon for the first time about a month and a half ago (after shaving for years) and it barely hurt. I mean, it didn't tickle, but it was in no way a horrible experience, even in the more sensitive areas. However, I did have strays and hairs that broke off rather than being pulled out and bought an at-home kit to clean it up. I went back to the salon after four weeks and the second time was considerably less involved.

Then again, I'm someone who has multiple tattoos, puts out candles with her fingertips, and used to have a pretty nasty cutting problem, so my tolerance of pain may be different than others. But I'll never shave down there again, ever. Waxing is sooooo much better, though not for the modest.

Gymgirl, you said...

I agree. Sticky nads would be awful!
