Ideas for picking out/giving E-Ring to GF

Ok here is my situation:

I want to propose to my GF later this year and I want it to be somewhat of a surprise so going shopping with her to pick out the ring is not my first choice.

I want to get her a nice Tiffany e-ring. I know they are $$$ and I can get a better deal online etc but she loves Tiffany and even though she never said, I can tell she would love a Tiffany ring and would probably prefer a little smaller Tiffany ring than a bigger one from somewhere else.

Except the problem is I am not 100% sure the ring to choose. She did mention she liked the classic round Tiffany setting one time a long time ago but she also liked some of the other styles too.

So here is my 2 options I am kind of thinking:

Choice A) choose a ring that I think she will like

B) propose to her with a Tiffany box with either nothing in it, a note saying we are going ring shopping or a mock ring and then take her ring shopping for her perfect ring

What do I do in your opinion?

If you can afford a Tiffany ring, take her to the mother ship to shop for it. It's worth it, IMO, just for the experience. After, it's a short walk to Patsy's on 56th and 8th for a nice intimate dinner and a little celeb watching.

The proposal is a process you share together IMO. The actual moment when you 'pop the question' might be a surprise, sure. For myself, it was one of the most 'fun' moments I had in my former marriage.

Maybe someday I'll do it again, sans the santa suit ;)

Take her to NYC and propose to her somewhere in NYC or right outside the Tiffany store, that way you can just walk right in to get the ring!!

I personally, would have been disappointed if he had an empty box... even if it meant we were going to pick one later... it just seems so... anticlimactic in a way. I think SerialGFs idea is perfection. I would do that, or just get one and tell her after you pop the question that its a temp. People exchange rings all the time.

If you do take her in, you might want to clarify a price range beforehand. Those tiffany rings have a wide range :)

GL!

A temporary ring is always useful. I never take expensive jewelry on a vacation abroad, and I also don't want to wear an expensive ring if I'm going camping or hiking, or doing anything else that might damage my ring. So I guess I'd like a cheap engagement ring which I could wear when it isn't safe to wear my expensive Tiffany ring!

The other issue is that shopping at Tiffany's is probably a once in a lifetime experience which I'd be really sad to miss. I say propose with a cheap ring, then later on take her to Tiffany's to choose a real ring, and take her for a nice lunch afterwards.

You should take her directly to the store and ask her to select the one of her choice. She will get best of her choice and you would be happy with that.
