Lost, this is gonna be a tough nut to crack

I knew this girl, let's call her A, about a year ago. Back then I was hung up on another girl, let's call her B. I am kind of indecisive and a pussy when it comes to girls and back then I was really desperate to get B's attention and did a lot of stupid things and totally behaved like a pussy. A was working on an assignment with me at that time and she kind of seen me behave in that manner for quite a while. Which is pretty bad impression to a girl I supposed. And yeah... B rejected me... totally.

 

I didn't really noticed A at first, all I knew was that we had pretty similar interest. I really seldom or never interacted with her except for work related matters. So yeah... I knew her for a year, she's in my AIM and I have her number, but I like never spoke to her at all. This is what makes this so hard.

 

So recently, I find myself taken a liking to A. A little about A, she is not your typically bubbly girl and outgoing girl. She's hardworking and quiet, you know the type of girl that would go home straight after school to do their homework and avoid crowds. I guess you could call her a geek, well kind of. And she probably never had a boyfriend before.

 

So how do I approach this girl? She always puts herself on Busy on AIM so it's kinda hard to talk to her. It would be kind of weird to just start talking to her more frequently on AIM since I don't have a habit of making small chats with her all this while, if I just start to talk to her more frequently, won't it will put her defences up? Also she doesn't seem to have a habit of maintaining a conversation on AIM, it's not that she answers with short replies, it's more like she will make comments and asks you questions but after you give her your opinions or replies she will just go off to do her work. I hope it's a geek thing and not that she hates me. Yes, I know she's very busy because she takes more subjects in school than the rest of us.

 

She comes like to school like once or twice a week and I am lucky that we are talking the same route home so I do get the chance to go back with her but usually with some other friends on the same route. But even then I don't know what to say to her, it's always so awkward. Once we were going home together, she mentioned she wanted to drop off at one of the interval location to do some shopping. Back then I really wanted to follow her, but I was afraid that she might be trying to avoid going back the entire route home with me so I left. I really felt like a jerk but I had bad past experiences where the girl wanted to avoid me and make some excuses so she didn't have to go home with me, so I didn't want to take the risk.

 

How do I approach this girl? Oh yeah, I am geeky and kinda awkward too, kinda similar to her so I really can't do anything a player guy can do to approach a girl like touching her or playing mind games, it would totally be unnatural and I wish to build up rapport to her more before I ask her out else it would be totally random.
