BK Girl
I have been on the Perricone diet for the last 2 weeks or so, and while I love the results so far, I am starting to crave carbs (mainly sweets) really badly. All I have been able to think about this morning is going across the street to the deli and picking up a chocolate muffin. I already ate breakfast, so I'm not even hungry but I'm still craving carbs! I'm sure there are a ton of people either on a low carb or no carb diet right now and was wondering how they are all dealing with the carb/sugar cravings. Any advice is much appreciated! Cheers! moimeme
Your body needs carbs. In particular, your brain works on carbs alone. Your cravings are your body begging you for the carbs it's being deprived of.

UCFKevin
Go across the street and eat what you want. What, are you supposed to eat what you've been eating and doing what you've been doing every single day for the rest of your life, living in misery? Screeeeeeew that. Eat what you like and be active and exercise.

Eat what you like and be active and exercise. This is what I do. I eat what I want, but mostly because what I want is usually healthy. It's also okay to 'cheat' once in a while. The best diets are those that you can live with the rest of your life, and not just something you do for a month or two. Agreed. Just exercise, stay active to what you feel is comfortable, and try to eat healthy. A restrictive diet would drive me insane. Once you get a decent idea of what is healthy to eat for you, and what portions are good, then you have your diet
Author BK Girl
Thanks for the replies! I actually do eat fruit for breakfast and healthy carbs like veggies and brown rice and such...all in all this diet is pretty healthy and I like eating that way, so that's not so much of a problem (oh, and I'm fairly active) It's just that every once in a while I get major cravings for sweets..which is the bad thing. However, reading back on all of your replies, I'm sure it's not going to kill me to cheat once in awhile and give into my sweet tooth
Matilda
How about things like sugar free fudge pops, sugar free pudding, sugar free jello, sugar free candies? There are all kinds of things now that are sugar free. But, I do agree that once a week or so it is generally okay to indulge in something sweet.
UCFKevin
Blegh. I think anything sugar free is also taste free.
wideawake
I already ate breakfast, so I'm not even hungry but I'm still craving carbs! Nicotine gum - kills hunger/carb cravings faster than anything else I know of. Splenda - Love me some sucralose based products. Jello fat/sugar free pudding mix/Splenda/Cottage Cheese/Fat Free Milk = Major Yummy 5-htp - Most people that have 'carb cravings' are experiencing signalling from their dopagenic and serotogenic systems looking for more 'reward' type neurotransmitter signals. Carbs do this VERY well. **NOTE** I'm not recommending 5-htp at all, but in my experience it can be a powerful weapon to reduce appetite. Which leads me to the last entry, and by far the most effective. Amphetamines - Like it or not, nothing will kill hunger better than good ol' amphetamines. Ever see any fat meth heads? Now, where did I put my Wellbutrin?

Author BK Girl
I gave into my sweet tooth today and what do ya know...I wasn't as pleased as I thought. Since I haven't had processed sugar in my diet for so long it actually made me sick! Wideawake: Thanks for the ideas..that sugar free pudding with cottage cheese and milk recipe sounds yummy! I'll have to try it out
wideawake
Here's the deal: 1 tub of low-fat cottage cheese (not fat-free...it tastes like ass). I think that's 16oz. 1/2 to 1 cup skim milk 12 oz of Spenda (12 little packs) 1 package of the fat/sugar free jello pudding mix (chocolate if you're me..) Mix the milk, Spenda and cottage cheese together in a large bowl first. Get the whole mix to a very smooth texture. This will require some sort of mixer and some time. THAN add the package of fat/sugar free jello pudding mix and continue mixing until the whole thing is mixed up. You may need to add some more skim milk to get it to a smooth consistency. Pour into 4 or 5 cups and put them in the fridge to set up. Should be ready in about 1/2 hour or so. If you're going to keep these around for more than a day or so, place the plastic wrap over each one to keep them air tight. This will keep the MUCH fresher than if you don't. Don't add the fat/sugar free jello pudding mix until near the end though, as it sets up very quickly and if you don't have a smooth mixture before you add it, you sure as heck won't after. You can figure out the macro breakdowns (carbs/protein/fats) by adding up the stats from the various components and than dividing by how many cups you fill. It may just be the BEST late night, last meal of the day snack EVER!
HeyHeidi
I realise you were being tongue in cheek dude, but for the unmotivated or undisciplined among us, amphetamines are the only way to go. I was always slightly overweight, then one happy summer I discovered speed and ecstacy. I had a great time and lost a tonne of weight as well. As soon as I finished my holiday and went back to work I got off the drugs, but was so happy with my new body that I began to work out in the gym and eat more healthily. I have now maintained a great figure for 3 years without the use of any drugs, but it took a dodgy start to get me motivated.
