brokendreamz Posted October 5, 2011 Share Posted October 5, 2011 So, nearly 9 months ago my world came to an abrupt end! My fiance left me, I had to sell my house and suffered depression. Now, 9 months on and a lot of work later I am in a way better place, I'm in the best shape of my life and I have some money behind me (not millions but a few thousand). I am thinking about leaving my job... but don't know what to do!! What would you do in my shoes?? Link to post Share on other sites

I should mention that the only reason I haven't taken off round the world is that I'm 34 and scared that I'd be throwing away a really good and well paid job that I enjoy and would be coming back from what ever adventure with no qualifications etc... I think a few here are going to tell you, your young, you only live once, go for it. Others will say, a few thousand properly invested now will result in a few hundred thousand when you are retirement age. I now a lot of people in their sixties, by the way, who are in terrific condition & enjoying life more now than ever. Even if you have a good job it doesn't sound like your vary passionate about it so maybe getting away & discovering yourself would be the best thing for you. Link to post Share on other sites

It's one thing to do that in your 20's but you're entering your prime as far as careers go. When you'll be able to move up the ladder and make the money to set you up for a comfortable retirement. I'm worried if you do this you may regret it 20 years from now. I'd say at this point save a ton for retirement and do a ton of traveling then. Link to post Share on other sites

Very good question. I travelled extensively when I was in my early 20's and although I didn't realise it (wasn't prepared to admit it?) I was definitely 'Running From'. I'm not so sure now though. I guess I've lived the most part of my adult life on a certain track with certain thought patterns and I am in a place now where those thought patterns have been challenged for the good and the track I was on no longer seems to be the right one... Which I guess is the reason for this post - I don't know what to do!!! Hmmm, as I write this I'm raising I might be having something of a mid life crisis - but buying a sports car isn't going to do it for me, I feel like I need to get away from everything and every one for a while. Problem is I don't know where I'd go/what I'd do. I'm not afraid of anything so to speak, just don't want to bum around for a year or two with no objective... Sorry to ramble!
