Woggle
I do think that mobsters and gangsters are idolized in our culture. When I was growing up John Gotti was pretty much a rock star in NYC.
AHardDaysNight
He actually has somewhat of a cult following. Guns N Roses performed one of his songs. I heard his music and listening with an unbiased mind he was your run of the mill folk singer from that era. Ted Bundy did get tons of love letters but I am sure the average person does not hold him in high regard. GNR actually received a LOT of crap over including that song on their album. They had to remove it, and it wasn't until the recent reissues that it was put back on. I have Charles Manson's first album, and yeah, it's good. However, I can't listen to him preaching about peace, when I know what he did. Ted Bundy would have gotten a LOT more female attention, had he not been a serial killer psychopath. That's what the OP seems to not realize. I doubt he's that ugly, anyway. I asked to critique his picture (and as someone who has been called ugly before, I'm the last person who would give a mean remark), and he turned it down. He just has low self esteem and refuses to do anything about it.
Author danmorisson
I totally agree with you. But the media can turn bad people into 'good' people -- the media turns alot of these bad people into celebrities. What the film 'Natural Born Killers' is about. They then become a fascination. They aren't treated like your normal killers. The media is a powerful tool -- that alone can make the undesirable desirable Edited October 24, 2011 by danmorisson
Author danmorisson
Anyway... Believe me, if you were really 'hot' and killed some radom person (especially an ugly male) for kicks you'd come out of prison still well-liked (mostly by the young ones. The old folks would think different of you)
cerridwen
The sit in (on your driveway) is scheduled for Friday night! I'll be the big guy in the clown mask with the Chinese throwing stars. We're bringing a few buckets of chicken wings, so if you want to throw in a twelve'r or two of beer, we can do this thing right! Bring it on, pinko. I'm canceling all plans and staying home Friday to hot tar the driveway. Let's see how your Birkenstocks hold up then. And OP, absolutely. D-Lish
Charles Manson was an incredibly talented songwriter, singer, and musician. He had the ability to become a huge superstar, even was in touch with Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. Do you ever hear him spoken about kindly? No, of course not. He was a cold blooded killer, who is sick and has several mental illnesses. That is his legacy. If you want to be remembered for being a sick minded person, OP, become a serial killer. If you want to be remembered for being a good person, however, help people instead of hurting them. Did someone just compare Charlie Manson to Brian Wilson as a song writer? Are you effing kidding me???? Are you saying that if it weren't for his perpensity for murder and violence that he'd be a rock icon? WHERE, and I'll ask again WHERE do you draw your facts from? He strummed a guitar on the street and sometimes around a campfire. I've heard his songs, he's musically retarded, he's lyrically retarded. By retarded I mean "slow", have you studied him? He's bat shyte crazy, his main talent lied in manipulating the meek and vulnerable.
Author danmorisson
These people had no homes and he used religion (a nice guy persona) to manipulate them. He gave them a reason to live. Lots of religious people do this but to make money.

Don't put words in my mouth. Anyway, I think he was talented. Bat Shyte crazy, yes, but talented. I'm sure there are plenty of artists in my iTunes that you wouldn't like, and plenty of artists in your music library that I wouldn't like. Doesn't mean that nobody will like those artists. Author danmorisson
Pals with Brian Wilson! Anyway.... Famous killers are well liked not hated
AHardDaysNight
I don't think anyone likes a killer. They're scared of them.
Author danmorisson
They're not hated though, are they? Example, when do people ever refer to these killers as beasts or monsters? I've been called all sorts of horrible things.
Author danmorisson
I wish it were that easy but we live in a narcissistic/sociopathic planet, where people only have feelings for the attractive and/or people of high social status. Hardly anyone out there has 'genuine' feelings for others. In short, we 'ugly nobody's' don't 'fit in'. I would be happy if I if were at least truly friend-worthy but I'm not. I have some friends (only a handful) but they only like me out of pity
