DerangedAngel
I recently purchased a book about Reiki online ("Reiki for Beginners" - David F. Vennells). I finished it today, and I am completely not getting it. I've only had one "treatment" years ago which was interesting, at least, but also somewhat frightening. And I like to think I'm fairly open-minded. I actually have no idea what got into me, as far as buying the book. I just thought it would be awesome to read, and perhaps learn, about the self-treatment. But, I mean, whoa. A quote from the book: "To scan the aura, simply place your hands palms down above your client's body and run them slowly from head to feet (I can do this). You should be able to feel a gentle "cushion" of energy above the body (Nope. Is her aura broken?). You can sense this by slowly raising and lowering your hands until just touching the surface of the energy field (Like, a Star Wars energy field?). It may take a little practice before you can notice this easily (How about at all?). It's important to be relaxed (I was until trying this!) and "open" to sense energy." So, anyone out there have any experience with Reiki? About the only thing that I got out of this book is to not touch someone's genitals during the treatments unless you know them well. -Deranged
CurlyIam
Right.... Didn't they have a chapter on "learning how to walk on water in 10 days"? Jeez!! I'm sure there are some interesting books about reiki, but it's so definetely not like you're gonna be doing this tomorrow! I don't know about aura, what I know is I've been to some yoga classes in highschool, and besides learing some very usefull relaxing techniques, I developped a taste in different type of music too (Vangelis, Yanni, even Loreena McKennitt and so on). And they were reading the "upanishade"... Honestely, DrAngel, there are tones of book that can read you be more in tuned to yourself. Books that make you feel things... could be... but they won't be anything similar to "close your eyes and feel the beauty of the world" . So talk to someone you know with a special interest in this (someone trustworthy!) and ask for some books about the subject, if you are interested.

If this sort of thing worked, we would all be doing it and we would all be quite healthy. I agree, it's really nice to read about these things and understand how they are supposed to work, but if you thought you could go out and feel energy and heal people with your hands.... Well, that was being too hopeful, I think Hopefully it's a good read, and you can gain a deeper understanding into some of the lesser known areas of our humanity.

Well, that was being too hopeful, I think Yeah. It was a good read, and my first "patient" and I got a couple of hours of entertainment out of the whole thing - so it wasn't a total waste. I never thought it would actually amount to anything, as in I didn't expect to heal anyone, but I thought he would have something useful (real?) in the book. Having read it, however, I think I'm going to try set up another Reiki appointment for the hell of it. Seeing their enthusiasm about their funky practice is worth the cash. I think so, anyway. -Deranged
magda
I went to one before. I said I didn't feel anything; he said I had blockage. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for it.
