Oh Andy....I know a year isn't a big deal, but here in the states 17 is considered illegal. In the UK it's probably not.:o

All above board here! Age of consent is 16 in the UK.

Hell, that 17 year old was more experienced than I was... if anything, she was taking advantage of me!

lol, yeah we dated for the best part of a year but she later admitted she had initially only intended to 'use me for some fun'!

Wow dirty girl hahahahahaha that's funny. So young and so naughty  I started dating at 17 and I was FAR from naughty. I was quite innocent. It's crazy how some girls develop so much faster then others.

do you see any problem with this? i mean im not going to tell her to stay away from him or anything like that, she's 18 and can do whatever she wants. but it feels like there's a huge difference every year when your that young, i remember myself feeling a lot older by only being 20 instead of 18. to me it would feel better if she was 20 and he 25.

I would be concerned with his intentions for her. Typically in that scenario, its easy pickens for the older guy. Maybe your sister wants to get screwed? Not much you can do but voice your concern.

Gotta love naughty girls :D

I reckon that's party cultural too... I mean on these and other US dominated dating boards it's not uncommon to find guys who want their girlfriend to be a virgin or something like that. Maybe that's feasible over the pond, but would be virtually impossible here! They all start young, and nobody really has that christian 'wait for marriage' thing either.

And you start drinking at a young age as well. Our legal age for booze is 21. What is it there?

Not a lot of people here in the states wait for marriage to have sex. Most of us have sex way before that. Do guys really want virgins? I always thought they'd want a woman that knew what she was doing in the sack. I guess some do and some don't :)

Five years difference at that age is really not that big of a deal. I was 18 when I met my husband, who is 6 years older than me. I was 19 when I married him. I was always attracted to the older guys, even in high school, because they seemed like men, whereas the guys my age always seemed like immature boys. We've been happily married for many years. Maturity is not a number, it's a state of mind. An 18 year old who is very mature for her age could certainly be a match for a guy five years older.

18 to drink legally here, although most will start well before that. I did at about 14. I can't see the appeal in dating a virgin myself, but some guys seem to. Not only would I prefer a girl who knows what she's doing, but I'd want a girl who's been with enough guys to realise how awesome I am :D

Hahahahaha you are killing me Andy. It's too bad you are so far away. I do love me some British boys though. Love the accent of course. Typical right? And you are so good looking.

girls will always be attracted to older guys at that age:) because girls do want a man not a boy. i would never considering getting married at the age of 19. im not saying its a bad thing, if it works out for you im glad. just saying people are rushing into marriage to fast these days. i would make sure i know my standings in life before i do anything like that, "not saying you dont":)

It really depends on the person if they are mature enough to be married at that age. I know others, friends and relatives, who got married that young and are still happily married with their first husbands. It really depends on the person. Most people are not mature enough at that age to make that kind of lifelong decision, but for some, when they meet the right person, they don't want to wait to commit to him.

WTF? I'm really surprised by the original post and some of the responses in here.

A 23 year old going out with an 18 year old is completely healthy and normal, at least over here in the UK anyway.

They're both young adults, and the age gap isn't that big either. There is nothing 'weird' or 'wrong' about it at all.

Some people.

Seriously, some of you guys are from a completely different planet.

well theres no one who says its wrong, people are saying that it in most cases its better with a partner that are on the same level. i can tell you by looking at my sister that she's mature but not as mature as a 23 year old girl. thats the difference, they still got this partymode switched on. and the way they interact with their agegroup is far from grown up. im not saying whether it is wrong or not, but it can be weird sometimes. i don't know if you have a little sister, but its harder to see her going out with an older guy then it would be to see a random girl. :)

agree, but people often believe that they're mature enough even when they aren't. and its not only about that, its about knowing how to take the next step in life, and i do think that its easier when you got some lifeexperience. dont take this personal, just speaking in general
