yongyong
I am thinking about doing yoga. I have 3 reasons that keeps me unmotivated. First, it won't make me look better. I've been a skinny guy in my life and I will stay skinny rest of my life. I've been going to the gym few months and gained some weight. I am at 6'2" and 193lbs. my goal is reaching 200lbs. at the gym, I do cardio for 10 minutes since it doesn't help me building more muscle. (it's good for heart but many people's first motivation is looking good) I think all women will quit if they don't see the result in their appearance The thing is men/women have different body and have different concept of mind for 'nice body' I like seeing myself in the mirror after taking a shower at the gym because I see the small result day by day. If I don't notice results after 30 days, will I get motivated? not sure Other 2 reasons are not that a big deal. I want to try this hot yoga place and all guys take their shirt off. I just don't like that I also sweat a lot. I think I will sweat like a pig in a hot room like that and it might disturb others. I have no intention to look like yoga instructor (very skinny, few muscle) If I want to have somewhat muscular lean body(let's say abecrombie model), will it help or am I going to waste my time? What's your motivation for going to yoga? Getting in shape? Doing meditation? Feeling good after sweating a lot?
betterdeal
I do bikram (hot), vinyasa and hatha styles (one or the other a couple of times a week). Physically it's good for posture, flexibility, balance and general toning. Mentally, and emotionally, I find it a relief, a challenge, exhausting and liberating. There's quite a bit of eye candy too, which is nice (although that can put you off your stride if you don't zone it out when practising). The meditative state is an emotional release. Just try it. Give it 3 sessions and see how you feel about it then.
Imageiko
The only yoga I've done is from the p90x workouts. It's one of the harder workouts for sure as I wasn't very flexible before. I'd recommend mixing it in to some workout routine you do. Stretching is important and you really do feel great afterwords and I think it makes a difference looks wise. spopov27
I don't have much experience with yoga. Flexibility isn't that important for general health as far as I know, but cardio is. If you want to gain muscle you must increase the number of calories you eat per day and the number of grams of protein eaten per day. At 193 lbs you should be getting at least 250g of protein a day and about 3000-3500 calories. Cardio isn't necessarily going to ruin your muscle gaining efforts as long as you don't do too much and always do your cardio before your lifting workout. Also, when you go to the gym you should focus on lifting heavy weights for about 6-8 reps for about 12-15 sets per muscle group. So for example 3 sets of bench, 3 sets of incline bench, 3 sets of flys and 3 sets of decline would be 12 sets for chest.
betterdeal
Ask yourself, why do you want to look a certain way? If the way you look is your primary motivator, what you achieve will more likely be artificial and look so. If your primary motivator is to achieve something, a side effect of that can be a different looking body. That's the difference between a body builder and an American football or rugby player. One is a means to an end; the other an end in itself. Being flexible improves well being, makes many every day tasks easier, improves digestion as you move around more and movement is important to digestion, improves skin as increased movement helps move lymph and blood, and decreases risk of injury. It makes you more sensual, as you're spending less time shying away from things, and makes sex more enjoyable. Yoga also involves quite a bit of stamina work on the muscles. Try this pose for 1 minute on each side and see how your arms and legs feel. Edited December 6, 2011 by betterdeal
