The Holidays & A Thought

Hi all . I was thinking this morning of how christmas is going to be a bugger this year . I'm sure many of us feel like that here . But I would like to share a thought if I may .... I think its the anticipation of it thats the worst . I think about being a kid and getting butterflies in my moms car on the way to swimming lessons ( lol ) . Once in the water , it was fun . It was the anticipation I created in my mind that caused the anxiety . I am trying ( stress trying ) to relate that analogy to my thoughts currently plaguing me and apply that reasoning to the impending holidays . Perhaps the anxiety of knowing my thoughts of her are going to be amplified big time soon are the exact reason that it all seems so " heavy " .

I am by no means stating that I have acomplished this , but I am really going to try to keep the anxiety levels at a low , hopefully by not anticipating my future emotions . Anyone care to comment ? I would love to hear if you folks think this is valid or am I not being realistic .

Well, I think you've got a positive attitude with regards to "I'm not going to let this beat me!"

I can relate though. The holidays are I think the worst time to be single, beating Valentines hands down. All I seem to see are couples buying coupley presents and dancing in a coupley way to slow Xmas songs and it just makes me want to beat someone's face in with a guitar!!

...

But yeah! Sucky time of the year to be single, especially for the recently single.

Plus NYE is always a big couples night from my POV.

This year it's going to be hard on me. I had so many plans for December generally. My birthday is next week, then it's Christmas, then her birthday is on the 27th, then it's NYE! This was going to be the first ever Christmas that I was actually going to be happy, jolly, and magical! Now, I plan to be a complete bitter grouch!

Think my point here is: If- like me- you're worried about the anxiety that the holidays will bring, just give in to your emotions! Right now, I'm pissed and it feels kinda good! Later on, I'll get upset and I'll talk it through with my family and friends. Then I might even accept the cheer, and use it to feel better about the situation. Who knows!

But yeah, just take all the emotions as they come. Don't look at them as "black or white", they're ALL natural and part of the process! Don't worry about them coming. Don't anticipate them, sure, but if they do come then just accept it!

Hope this rambling made sense. It did in my head but it's been a long day!

yea thats quite a decent association FenderJames, anticipation can at times be more Painful than the event itself...

recently had to briefly "get into the water" by passing my ex on the other side of the street, dont think I could have coped if it was in a inclosed room for 2 hours but still it wasnt as bad as I thought.

NYE is a b****, especially if your invite to a party or things, which is why I kind of stay at home on NYE and just watch movies or such, it really aint fun watching other couples cavort and be merry ..
