I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman...

Recommended Posts

OK...sorry to those here who are unhappy...but I'm on a high, and wanted to share...

I got engaged a week ago, and last week I went wedding dress shopping in some fancy places in the city. It was so much fun. Some of the elite fashion places treated us like royalty, bringing out peppermint tea on trays, and letting us try on all sorts of clothes, just for fun. I was with my mum and best friend. I'm not usually a very girlie girl, and I don't like shopping that much, but this was such fun, and I felt so special and pampered.

I ended up trying on a beautiful wedding dress too. It's expensive, but my fiance and I have agreed that that's one thing we are happy to spend a bit of money on. It's sleek and sexy looking too, so I am sure he'll love it. Sigh. I'm happy. :D I love looking at my antique engagement ring on my finger, and thinking about my love, and our life ahead. I know it want all be easy...heck, it hasn't been so far...but I also know I look forward very much to my life ahead with him, and all our adventures, joys, ups and downs, to come. Starting with a wedding in Fiji with close friends and family, before we quit work to travel around Australia with our caravan next year. Yahoooo! Only 10 more months of work till we resign.

Also, am trying very hard to keep my obsessive thoughts in check, especially as the whole wedding thing is a bit of a tricky one for me, because he's been married before...and I fight not to compare and ask questions.

Doing well though .

Sounds great! Congratulations! :)

What about letting your obsessive thinking run free for a short while, but only let it focus on the wedding, dress, ring, happiness, etc.? Try thinking non-stop about all the good things! :)

Cheers :)

You know, A.G., that's not such a silly idea. Whenever I notice my mind sneaking onto a topic it should not be thinking about (ie my fiance's FIRST wedding) I immediately switch it back onto something in the present. Like, look how lovely this ring is we bought together...and all is represents...what do I need to start doing now...? And it usually works for me. Sometimes not immediately, but I get there...and float right back up to cloud 9. :)

Because the wedding is to be overseas and we would like some close friends and family there, we actually need to book fairly soon (the island is not big), and therefore send out invitations, so people can save and plan, if they wish to come. We are going to send them out in bottles, as a "message in a bottle" in keeping with the sea theme.

The "message in a bottle" theme sounds fun! :) Maybe you can get Sting to sing at the wedding! :)

Yes, I think you should keep forcing yourself to worry about all the good little details like what colour bottle, what shape bottle, what type of paper (parchement with jagged edges, some water marks on it, a little sand in the bottle, etc.), to keep your mind focused on all the good thoughts, and maybe even reprogram it to think obsessivley positively!

Best of luck...and Have lots of fun! :)

LOL! Yes, we thought we'd make the paper look old, and add some sand.

Can you line Sting up for me? :p

ps. maybe to personalise your wedding, you and you fiance can collect sand from your favorite beach together :)

That's a good idea. Got any others? Along the sea/island theme. I was actually thinking we could poor different coloured sands into a bottle at the wedding, to represent our union and the blending of two individuals..who still retain their own flair.

As for the invites...yep, the bottles, the message (invite) on old paper...some sand... I'm even figuring out what to write on it...such as "If this bottle has found it's way to you..then read on, for it has journeyed far, from the aqua waters of the south pacific...to announce the wedding..." blah blah

Wedding dress shopping is a blast. Gee I do recall hearing or saying this before. I'm so glad you had fun. I just love the message in the bottle theme. A suggestion for making you paper look old is soak it in strong cold tea and the let it dry. Then burn the edges a bit (this is the tricky part) my stepdaughter did this for a school project once and it turned out pretty neat.
