If you subscribe to it, Karma is one of those social beliefs that has the power to keep one on the straight & narrow. Sort of the way a police car can improve your diving,:D

Haha yeah. I personally don't subscribe to it, other than in the sense that it simply makes sense that if you act a certain way things will tend (in the long run) to respond back in a certain way. Some people have exceptionally good or bad luck, but most of us will more or less get out what we put in. And I read the term "karma" brought up on these forums a lot. I'd love to hear some illustrations of the idea of it.

Well if you want to look at this subject in a logical sense....typically speaking someone will continue their behavior until their bad behavior will eventually piss off the wrong person and they get burned, so yeah time is against them?

When I do good things it tends to help me keep looking for the good things in life. And what you look for is what you find so in a way it does work. I just enjoy helping people and that gives me a little more optimism about the world in general.

I don't believe in it as a sort of beefed up santa claus setting the cosmic account right.

I think that if you go through life most of the time treating people with as much decency as you can get, then in some indefinable way you will end up more at peace with yourself. You won't be so eaten up with unresolved guilt. You'll have certain sadnesses and so on, but you'll be on the whole happy with yourself.

Certain people that treat others as a means to an end, as tools to use for their gratification. Ultimately there's a certain emptiness to that, a certain deadness inside. I just don't see that as a sustainable model for happiness. No matter how much you bury it, almost everyone is scarred by the guilt of having inflicted pain. You can rationalise it as much as you like for your conscious mind, but deep down you'll know if you did wrong. yes, sure there's the odd psychopath incapable of feeling guilt in any way, but I certainly don't envy them their lot.

Karma has a way of getting back at people. That's the moment they genuinely realise their behavior had negative effects on others. They learn from it when their are put in the other's position and start to reflect on it. Everybody hurts eventually.

But luckily karma also believes in the law of averages. It's the way of the universe to say that you can't always have bad luck. Sometimes luck changes and you can look at your life in a more positive way.

But somehow in my life, I've always had the feeling someone is watching over me. The moment I separated from my boyfriend, I knew it was for the best. And luckily that I wasn't abused more or did suffer more. Or the worst that could happen, being pregnant or something else.

The moment you are hurt, you change. You grow stronger. And you tend to recognize more easily bad behavior before it consumes you. That's maybe a way of karma of telling others to back off.

I'm not sure if this is karma or not but...

I dated a religious guy for 2 years, no sex, it was against his religion before marriage (mennonite). I wanted to, but waited for him. A week after he dumped me, him & the new "friend" he was hanging out with a few weeks before dumping me  had sex. I waited 2 years, he slept with her after a week. He was a virgin.

Well, their dodgy roommates put a hidden camera in her room and posted online. Police involved, convictions, sex offender status and all. He swore off sex again until marriage and waited until he got married (to someone else) :lmao:

I shouldn't laugh, he was a dick but nobody really deserves that. But I can't help but smirk at times :o

Social psycology 101 :) "what goes around comes around", "birds of a feather..."(?) I think more bad things tend to happen to jerks than to nice people simply because there is little empathy for a jerk & it's more difficult to be consistently mean to a nice person without feeling like a jerk yourself. Being mean to a nice person is like kicking a puppy, no matter how annoying they can be LOL.
