DerangedAngel
I'm pale, people! It's June. I want a tan. But I don't tan very easily, or like at all. I burn quickly, and peel. Any suggestions? A tanning schedule? Products I can try? I'm not above sunless tanning, either. However, everything I try rubs off onto my clothing (anything you suggest better not do that ), smells bad, or makes me look like I rolled around in clay mud. Er, help me? Something quick and easy, please. And I don't do tanning beds. -Deranged
HokeyReligions
Some of the salons around here offer some kind of applied tan. I don't know what its called, but I've seen some of the women come out and it looks good and natural. Check with some of your area salons. Don't forget to do a patch test first to make sure you can use whatever it is and please be careful if you are out in the sun! Skin cancer kills.
Stone
I don't know where you live but here in FLA the is a NEW trend at the tanning salons it's called "spray tan" or 30 second tan it's a spray that a machine sprays on from head to toe and get's in all the creases. I love it. You have to go 2 times your 1st week then twice a month after. But you look like you live in the Bahamma's after 3 sessions. I think I've tried every tanning trend on the market. This one deffinatly takes the cake. but only tanning salons carry them.
DerangedAngel
O! I tried the "spray tan" last year. It looked amazing the first day. I swear, I gawked at myself in every mirror I passed. It really looked like I had spent many long days in the sun working on it. But the thing is, after like, day 2, it looked rather s***ty. Even after the touch-up session or whatever the hell they call it. I looked like a friggin' 'gator. I don't know if I have the wrong skin for it, or what. I had to exfoliate like 50 bajillion (you know what I mean) layers of my skin off to look normal again. It was rather embarrassing. It's hopeless. -Deranged
CurlyIam
I feel your pain, Deranged. But, with the risk of sounding terribly old fashioned, why don't you try having a natural sunten? I hate staying out in the sun, and just "boiling" this is why this summer I have taken my courses and books outside. It also helped a lot the fact that the one who practically dragged me out in the sun was my flatmate. There is no escape from her ! So get your girlfriends and start some outside activities. I honestely don't believe in any "miracle" products. Steadily, easily, you'll get there. And if this year it will take you forever to catch some colour - use lots of suncream to protect your white skin, next year it will be much easier, should you do a fine job this summer. C'mon, cheer up and enjoy! Take this from a person who spent three summers in a row competing with your character there. No more, my friend, no more!
moimeme
It's a drag that people still think tans are attractive - given the nasty effects they may have to endure later. My dermatologist loves me to bits because I stay away from sun. I only ever turned light beige from being in the sun, which looked even worse. I'll stick with my 'Snow White' complexion (my hairdresser said it and meant it as a compliment! )
sportsloving
Coppertone makes a cream lotion that goes on pretty smooth and won't stain clothes (found in your local Walmart and pretty cheap too). Instead of waiting for hours for it to not rub off on clothes, you only need to let it dry (pretty quick). It also has sun screen in it so if you are in the sun, you are protected. I have used it (I tried a few many times before but was always orange, had missed places, icky outcomes) and this stuff seems to work. And it lets you decide your level, so if you only want a little, go for the light to med. I use it straight after a shower and have never had a problem. Good luck to you and hope you find something that works for you
Matilda
I'm with Moimeme on this one. I have very pale skin too, and always coveted a tan, but generally only burned. I have had several family members who have had skin cancer, the bad kind, melanoma. So now I revel in my paleness. I wear a hat and sunscreen, and actually it feels good to not have the pressure of feeling like I need to be tan. But, I'm old, so maybe that makes a difference.
CurlyIam
Oh,c'mon, there's nothing sexier than a little sunten! Not dark chocolate, but some colour I believe is more than wellcame. MAtilda is right, it should match with your complexion. I am not pale, so when I do finally catch some sun I look and most importantly I feel terific! My problem is the patience, but there is no higher price to pay for beauty - or what beauty is in my eyes! Given the fact that you are trying suntenning solutions, it must look good on you too. What I say is forget 'miracle' products, wear some sunscreen, go to a saloon three or four times to prepare your skin and then get out in the sun! Couldn't be easier, could it? Samantha16
Biotherm. It's in the orange bottle. After showering and exfoliating you put it on. You put it on everyday until you're happy with your results. I tried it and noticed a difference within about 3 days. It didn't turn me orange so I was happy. They also have special gloves for a non-streaky application. Also, enhance your tan with a good bronzer. Apply it to your cheeks, over your brows, beneath hair line, nose, above lip, chin, and jaw line. You can even apply it to your cheast to give the illusion of more cleavage. Apply gently with a big blush brush. Look in the makeup section too. They always have body creams for a tanned look that will just wash off in the shower. (No need to look like an orange alligator for a week).

Matilda
I saw something on the news today about teens and melanoma, and thought of this thread. Here's a link: http://www.kidsgrowth.com/resources/articledetail.cfm?id=1567
Hypatia
I'm another Snow White, SPF 30 all year round, every exposed inch slathered, plus a hat and sunglasses. But when I feel like my legs are just too raw-chicken looking, I use Neutrogena Instant Bronze Foam in Medium. It's just enough color, definitely *not* orange, dries really fast, lasts a good 4-5 days. I love it and highly recommend it, and it's less than $10. The Instant Bronze line also goes on in the color it will turn out to be, so if you notice streaks or your knuckes and knees are dark, you can correct it with a little bit of wicth hazel on a cotton pad, which is also very, very cheap. Pookette
I don't tan either. Curse these Scandinavian genes... Anyway, I find that a few hours in the sun once in a while gives my face a little color so I don't look like the living dead. The legs and other body bits I don't even worry about. My husband complimented me on my "creamy" skin color so I haven't worried about getting a tan since then. I rather like standing out from the hordes of tanned people out there. SilverAngelus
hey, I just wanted to say that I am Scottish and have VERY pale skin and freckles (unfortaunatly enstaed of that amazing red hair and endless green eyes mine are reddishblonde and hazel, still pretty but...lol) Anyway though, My stepmom is Russian, spent most of her life in Russia and is STILL tanner than I am!!! I have a nice body ( 5'2, 100 lbs, gerneraly well muscled) ... but I am always shy about showing it off bc I am so pale and someone always has some stupid comment to make that even though my stomach is flat as a desk (I am working on abs) it still looks white as a marshmellow!!! I have tried laying in the sun, but I can only stand it for about 15 mins b4 I A. run out of patencs B. Have other things to do or, more often, C. Start to burn!! Right now I am a nice shade of beige bc I was recently burned but I still wish I could be alittle darker w/o having to burn first bc Iknow that is bad for you. My arms are nice and tan and so is my face but my stomach and legs are so pale! I have tried sunless and other things and they either turn me orange, rub off, or dont work. I have always thought sunless tans look to orange and fake. Recently I found this thing at K-Mart its in an aresol can and you get it in whatever shade and its like a spray that is skin colored and you put it on where ever you want and it is suposed to make you look tanner. It looks really neat and the tester was cool, (plus is was only like 2 bucks) but I didnt knwo how well it would work on me...has anyone else tried it? Basicaly just saying Hi and I am glad to know that i am not the only snow white out there! Oh yeah and damn the califonia sun for making celebs tan and making the rest of us look bad...we need to get some swedish/irish/watever ppl to be famous so being pale can be popular lol. Samson
There is nothing more attractive than "snow white" complextion and dark hair. Be happy with what you've got.
Baby Beaver
Loreal do a really good one. not sure what it's called, it comes in a bronze coloured tube. Here in england it's £9.99 not sure how much anywhere else. It's good coz it actually comes out of the tube the colour that it would be on your skin, doesn't need time to develop, therefore no streaking. Another good product is the san tropez. You can buy it really cheap in asda (walmart).
DerangedAngel
Thank you all for your responses. I found a wonderful product! No lie. I went to Wal-Mart/the mall and bought every sunless tanner I could find that I hadn't already tried. Loreal's Sublime Bronze (in light-medium) is awesome. Streak-free, great colour. And not too dark at all. It doesn't look like you have anything on, and next to a darker person, it wouldn't even look like I had tanned. Just that my skin was naturally a little darker than cotton. It also works great on the face. Close runner up: Neutrogena's Instant Bronze (in medium). A little darker than the Sublime Bronze, but, cover's great and is very natural looking. Doesn't work as well on the face. I decided to use this one for places that would get extra sun (shoulders, etc) and it blends in with the other brand fantastically. Thanks again. Cheers to the snow whites, -Deranged
