Taking time from eachother - Is this a good or bad idea?

Recommended Posts

I dated this girl who was my first ever love, it made me realize what love really meant. We broke up semi-recently, about 2 and a half weeks ago, and decided to just be friends. We broke up because we were going to two different colleges, and we knew that end was going to come at a certain time. I found out that trying to be friends with your ex-girlfriend is extremely difficult and if you love them, one of the most painful experiences ever. We ended up going through a two week stress period, where we expected so much out of eachother, yet didn't get it. I told her time and time again that to be friends, we had to stay as close and as important to eachother as we were when we were dating, and she agreed. Yet, the conversations began to get duller, the texts messages were shorter, and it turned out that we stopped even talking in school. Her friends also kept giving her crap about how she had to stop talking to me, so she just recently started putting on a front to her friends and made them believe that we no longer talked. This meant that we would no longer be able to see eachother around her two best friends...This crushed me. She said she'd rather fake herself around people to have friends than have zero friends. But last night was the big crusher, we were going at it about to have sex, and we just STOPPED and she put her clothes back on. She said we've changed so much. We agreed that we needed to take a month from eachother to figure things out. We also agreed that it would be an absolutely terrible month, just because of the fact that we wouldn't be seeing eachother for that long. It's only the first day, and I'm completely depressed. This girl was not only my love, my "fool around girl", and my ex-girlfriend...She was the closest I've ever been with a person my entire life - More so than my own family. I could tell her anything and she wouldn't judge me. She was the first person I went to when I had to talk about something. She was practically my best friend.

"So Tony? Why not just be friends?" Well, the real truth is, that I'm deeply in love with this girl. She feels the same way, but we just expect too much out of eachother and don't get it....The last couple of weeks we've drifted farther and farther apart, and we don't know why. She said our love wasn't enough, so I figured we had to take this month off to realize what it would be like to not have eachother in our lives'. You see, normally when I feel this crappy, I would go to her and talk to her. But I can't, and it sucks. I already miss her so much, and I hope she cracks before I do.

You can't just be friends with someone you have feelings for. It will continue to hurt you. You are also still in high school and we all have crazy things like that happen. In a few years you will look back and realize how silly things were.

For now you need to stay away until all of your non platonic feelings are gone.
