lifeasiknowit
Every time I've been on a first date with a guy, they always comment on how tiny I am. I'm 5 foot 3 and 105 pounds, but people often tell me I look like I weigh less. This isn't me trying to fish for compliments because I know I'm really small, ( it's natural)but I find it weird when a date tells me he's shocked by how tiny I am. It makes me feel like I'm freakish or something. I have a date tomorrow with someone I met online and I want to wear this nice dress, but I wonder if I should cover up more and wear something that makes me look more curvy? I wonder if I should wear heels too, but I'm not into wearing heels. I also look young for my age, so I wonder if a guy would prefer a more mature looking woman (I'm 28 but I've been told I could pass for a teen). I just always get the feeling like I'm too childish looking.

Certain guys like women who are taller or have a little bit more in the right places if you know what I mean, but your build and height would be acceptable for MANY men. g450
Let me put your mind at ease. Most men are very attracted to petite women. This is especially good for guys like me who are on the short side of the manometer. You have an advantage. Use it. And for goodness sake YES wear the heels! Most of us guys absolutely love how women look in heels, even tall women. Both my XW and my GF are petite. It's one of the things that attracted me to them in the first place. So see this as a good thing.
turt
You're not that small at all! Keep the dress, don't where the heels if you don't want to wear them.
Cypress25
You're not that small. A few pounds underweight maybe, but not dangerously so. If you're flat-chested and you have a childlike face, that could make you appear smaller than you really are. It's like an optical illusion. Looking young can make you look small, and vice versa. Oxy Moronovich
Let me put your mind at ease. Most men are very attracted to petite women. Let me take your mind out of a state of ease. The statement, "Most men are attracted to petite women" is NOT TRUE AT ALL. OP, I could write an essay about the number of dudes out there who do not find your shape attractive. Some guys like petite women; other guys wouldn't be impressed by petite women to give them a second glance. That being said, you shouldn't hate yourself. Just remember some guys may not like you, while other guys will adore your looks.
kaylan
OP, my ex had around the same height and weight as you at 5'2 102 lbs. She was petite but had some curve on her and a nice chest and butt...she had a models body and I loved it. Conversely, this gal I went on a date with last summer was about 5'3 and weighed around 105, but she was rail thin...not much of a body...so I wasnt attracted to her much. It really depends on the girl. Petite is nice...but a girl needs to have a little bit of a figure to go with it. She cant be like Paris Hilton and be flat all over. silvermercy
OP I'm 5 ft 2 and depends on the country of origin; In the UK I'm petite while in my country I'm normal average height. So you could be petite or medium (heck even tall sometimes. lol) depending on where you live. Also, I agree that most men like smaller-framed women, so don't listen to the post that said you're not in the majority of men's preferences. Also, consider it a blessing in disguise: if a man wants you to be of certain height and/or have the "right" curves in the "right" place according to him, then he's simply not the man for you! Simples.

Simples. How do you know that most men like your and the OP's size? There are a crapload of guys who do not find that frame a turn-on at all. I'd say the number of guys who like petite are far from in the majority. The majority of sexual images pandered toward men are full of women with some sort of shape or curves. Not necessarily fat or curvy (although BBW lovers do make up a significant number of men), but with some sort of shapely body. There's a reason why sex magazines, stripclubs, men's choice of hottest female celebrity, etc. hardly feature petite women.

EVERYWHERE!? LOL You know... the "girl next door" image? That's the most popular look for men in the REAL world (hard to believe I know)... In the fictional world, if we go by the lads' mag logic, men should date photo-shopped PAINTINGS. Fortunately, there are also many men out there who don't date women who look like prostitutes (hard to believe that again I know...) Also, you'll have to look like this if you want to make your point valid: http://www.burbujasdeseo.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Ryan+Wright+Sexy+Hunk+03.jpg or http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l6rh35TFv81qzmuato1_400.jpg Insider info: you also know what's a total turn OFF for most women? Attitudes like yours. Have a good day. OP: just ignore this poster's totally IGNORANT comments. He's in the minority (in the REAL world). Mme. Chaucer
Please don't even think like this. Show yourself off in what makes you look and feel your best. You are going to be too petite for some men. Some guys like tall women, some guys like va-va-voom. There are plenty of women out there for those guys! And there are men who are going to like you just the way you are. Let's just hope you like them!

I usually am not that attracted to "curvy" women at all. I do agree that the majority of men claim they like the above but I think a lot of that has to do with the media. Like I posted above, stay the way you are. You'll probably end up pushing someone away who likes the way you are now. It's a waste of time trying to become something you aren't. kaylan
@silvermercy Whats your issue? Hes simply pointing out that men like different things. NO, most men do NOT prefer petite women. Some guys do, some guys dont. But you arent a guy so how would you know? Most guys like vagina in general, so they arent going to complain when someone with a vag talks to them. If every guy had his way, hed have an average height woman (5'4 to 5'7) with a thin waste, curves, and a nice butt and chest. Thats not petite. Petite women are usually 5'3 and under and slim build. Its no different than saying most women prefer a guy 5'10 to 6'2 with a V shaped torso and nice abs. It is what it is, and different people like different things. silvermercy
Please for the love of God, someone notify all the petite women in the world (there are billions of them unfortunately) that their partners are settling and would have preferred a taller woman instead, like those promoted in the media! FitChick
lifeasiknowit: If your profile had current photos and you didn't lie about your height, the man contacted you because he is attracted to that type of woman. As far as men saying they were surprised that you actually are petite, it's because so many women post old photos of when they were thinner and show up for the date looking very different. In advertising that is called bait and switch. You shouldn't even be worrying about this. Just go an have a good time.
kaylan
^All other things equal, people would want their partners to have the sexy measurements seen in the hunks you linked, or in female babes that we see in the media. I dont think you are getting what I said. If people could keep all the positives that come along with their mate, but pick out their looks, most people would pick looks that would be pretty close to media images of "hot" for men and women. But theres compromise in most parts of life, so its not like most people can sit there and wait for someone who has everything they want in a mate. I have an ideal of what Id like in a girl, but im open to those who deviate from that ideal. The girl next door is a subjective caricature. Her physical attributes vary from person to person and all thats usually the same is that she is slim and woman of virtue. So we cant apply it to this discussion really, because shes not automatically seen as petite.

The "girl next door" is the most popular real-world image actually. Surely peeps here won't make me dig statistics now? I think you are missing my point. My point was that, all things equal, and if people could actually chose the physical attributes of their mate, most folks would choose something that looks like the sexy images in the media. Basically, if people could keep the good things that come along with their mate, they wouldnt mind seeing their mate have a sexier look. And the "girl next door" is a subjective idea. She has no set attributes except for usually having a slim to average waistline, and being a virtuous gal. Other than that her height, hair color, eye color, chest size, and butt size are variable from person to person. So considering this, I dont think she applies to this discussion. Pornographic images, on the other hand (as the poster mentioned) are extremely exaggerated and are not commonly encountered in the natural world (or most pornstars wouldn't have the need for i.e. breast or butt implants or huge amounts of make up and photoshop). What pissed me off was his attitude of "putting her out of her state of ease" (and that's not about people seeing things realistically). In other words, how did his post help the OP? kaylan
excuse my double post b4...didnt know it went through the first time. Come on, Kaylan. The average model is 5'9 and 115 lbs. With measurements of 35-24-35. Pretty far off from your ex. What I meant was that my ex was proportionate the way models are. Despite being small, she was curvy and has T&A. A lot of petite girls Ive known have not had bodies. Btw a lot of models now a days are stick thin like Paris Hilton and have hot dog bodies. Maybe so, the "girl next door" is not synonymous to petite but it includes this category very easily. Girl next door doesnt include petite. The whole girl next door idea is about guys wanting a cut, wholesome chick, whos hot behind closed doors. Theres no set physical attributes. If you want to say petite falls in their easily, then I could say Porno images fall in easily. Btw, media images of sexiness can be achieved by most if people werent so lazy. We can say its media all we want, but there are certain attributes that we know for a fact are sexy in men and women despite what the media tells us. Either way, the only reason you got harped on is because you assume that most men want a petite girl. There are nice...but it really depends on the guy.

So porno look is natural but petite is not natural? (Because that's what I gathered from your post in general.) UNFORTUNATELY, if we go by the media/porn look only a plastic surgeon can make someone look sexy in this society. Not so much about being lazy but about having the money and the will to undergo several plastic surgery procedures. Also, how come ALL the guys (I mean ALL) I have encountered both online and in real life (dates, friends, relatives, men, women, old, young) have always mentioned about how petite women are what MOST men prefer? ALL of them!!! No exception. One thing I hear for example is how desirable Asian women are due to their SMALL size. ALL THE TIME. For them, it's a PLUS. Perhaps it's because I live in the other side of the Atlantic? Europe? I seriously don't understand Americans... Thank goodness I'm proportionate in case I find myself on the other side of the pond! Hopefully, the other men here will do the same; i.e. not claim it's about the majority of their gender but down to their own experiences Indeed, as you said: "Everybody's preferences are different." Jane2011
OP, to me, your height is perfect. I like being petite, myself, but I wish I were about 5'3" instead of 5'. Also, you do seem a bit underweight. I think you should be about 112-115. I'm two lbs. heavier than you and three inches shorter. I wish I were about 101, though. I think *my* height falls into the "too petite" category. I loathe being 5' tall. Yours falls into a pretty acceptable range. Men like petite women, but not "midgets."
PlumPrincess
I thought petit meant short with a somewhat slender, not-so-muscular build. If you're too curvy, you probably fall out of that category, like Elizabeth Taylor. I've never heard her being called petit. And I would also not assume that the girl-next-door-look has anything to do with a woman's height. I thought it about looking natural and having a healthy glow.
